Tonight after dinner I was very nearly knocked down by a motorbike driver who was going full pelt down a side walk....

Is this behavior acceptable in thailand? Is it the norm?

Why are they so inconsiderate when it comes to pedestrians walking on the pavement??? And why don't they stop at a pedestrian crossing like they are supposed to?..

I gave him the verbals in thai and he just drove off shame faced without saying sorry, the horrible selfish git..

Is it acceptable ?.. no its illegal... Is it accepted, Yes, its not abnormal and such for a long time has become the norm at times of gridlock... BUT.. there are area's where its not the norm...

Cars are expensive, walking is free - thus everyone walking is poor, lower down the pecking order and not worthy of consideration... Or, at least thats what I suspect the mindset of some of the 'pavement riders' to be.

Also...  There is a 'so what' attitude...   the pavement is not for motorcycles, its for pedestrians... 'so what' !!... if they can get their bike on the pavement and not get caught up in gridlock, then......  yup - 'so what'.

I remember being on the pavement with my Son in his pushchair...   figured I'd walk the 1km rather than get a taxi (wife was out), big mistake, the pavement was dangerous with motorcyclists... most were courteous and gave space, but it was clear some were annoyed that I was getting in their way...

The sad part is, because policing is so ineffective the the 'entitlement' exists amongst many motorcyclists that they can use the pavement....  the only way to stop them, also means barriers which also make it very awkward for those in wheelchairs.

What an absolutely disgusting attitude from the Thais.

Horrendous even.

Will they ever grow up?

Of course it’s acceptable and the norm

Maybe you’re the one who was being inconsiderate

Because they simply don’t want to and couldn’t care less about your concern

Now you really done it, you’ve made yourself a target. I’d get a rear view mirror hat for your future walks if I were you.

Where do you think you are? In the United States or somewhere else? It’s worse than the Wild West out there and if you don’t get with the program you’ll likely get nailed by someone who dared you.

Or I'll nail them.

Either or innit.

Neither am I but it’s pretty difficult to run someone down if half my body is plastered into the pavement

Easy to knock them off their bikes though...

A strong kick in the back should suffice!

Why don’t you just carry a baseball bat with nine inch nails driven in the tip of it, nobody will get near you

Sorry bob, that was me.  But you're just too fat, slow and old and take too long to get out of the way. Maybe you should walk in the street where there's more space and leave the sidewalks to people like us on motorcycles.

What did you have for dinner and what did you say to me in Thai? Sorry, I couldn't hear you over the loud sound of my engine. I thought when you tried to kiss me though that was a nice touch.
