The Metropolitan Police have handed over a comprehensive evidence file to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) concerning a Premier League footballer accused of multiple rape allegations. The player, whose identity remains protected due to legal restrictions, was initially arrested in July 2022 in Barnet, north London, following claims that he had raped a woman in her 20s the previous month.

While detained, the man, who is in his 30s, faced further allegations of raping another woman in April and June 2021. However, the police later confirmed that no further action would be taken regarding the June 2021 claim, citing that the relevant legislation was not in place at the time of the alleged incident.

The investigations continued, and in February 2023, the footballer was interviewed under caution regarding a separate sexual offence alleged to have occurred in Barnet in February 2022.

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that the player remains under investigation for a series of alleged sexual offences said to have taken place between 2021 and 2023. A spokesperson for Scotland Yard stated, "Our officers are investigating following a number of reports of alleged sexual offences between 2021 and 2023."

The statement continued, "A full file has been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service, and detectives continue to work with prosecutors. Those who have come forward to police continue to receive support from Met officers."

The accused footballer has denied all allegations against him. The case remains under review as investigators collaborate with prosecutors to determine the next steps.

And this player has been in the regular starting lineup for his Premier League team since. I understand his name can't be mentioned here either?

Anyway, his title contender club has shown nothing to address this situation. I know you are, and should be treated as innocent until proven guilty, but the evidence in these cases are overwhelming. Other players have been suspended for less than this.

It's definitely not a good look for this London based title contender (third year in a row).

It's common knowledge who he is, and yes, although I support the club, I don't support how they've handled this, even though he has not been charged. If he is charged it will be different.

Of course Man City handled the same issue with Benjamin Mendy very differently.  But ultimately he was acquitted!

I support the same club and yes everyone knows who it is so its silly not to mention his name.   He cannot be punished for something he hasn't been charged with though and it shouldn't be down to the club to punish him for something he hasn't been charged with either.   He should have retained full anonymity (at the same level as the accuser) and no-one should know who it is at this stage.

Once his name was made public they should have sold him to a Saudi club really.  That fact that didn't happen makes me assume that the club believe he has a good case to prove his innocence over this as I doubt they would tarnish their own reputation if he did not.

In principle I agree. It's not the club's responsibility to be the judge before he is even charged. But you are spot on when you suggest he should have been sold, at least last summer when they had the chance. I've been a huge fan of this club since '71, and that will never change. Most of his alleged actions took place abroad as well, but those can't be brought up in a UK court as far as I know. Had it been a one time thing, I wouldn't be judging, but we have so much evidence here only in the UK, multiple cases, the recording evidence and more, so its hard to see that he would have a strong case.

If he is aquitted in the end, it might be because they weren't able to charge him for what happened abroad. And that should tell us something.

I've always loved the player, an extremely important player for the club, and I suspect that is the reason he still plays.
