File photo for reference only Authorities in Koh Pha Ngan have cracked down on an illegal childcare operation, arresting several foreigners from Russia, Ukraine, and Myanmar. The raid, executed on January 28 by a special operations unit from the Surat Thani Provincial Police, was a coordinated effort with local immigration and police officials. The operation targeted the Coolscool daycare centre located in Ban Tai subdistrict, following orders from Police Lieutenant General Surapong Thanomjit. The initiative aims to address illegal immigration and businesses to boost tourist safety and economic growth. The arrested include Olga Lagutova, 46, Elizaveta Nikolaeva, 40, Pavel Cheliadin, 41, and Aleksei Kostiakov, 45, all Russian nationals, along with Tetiana Aleksieienko, 50, from Ukraine. They have been charged with working without permits. Aye Yu Maw, 40, from Myanmar, was charged for failing to report her job details within the required 15 days. Margarita Khantemirova, 42, from Russia, faces multiple charges including running an unlicensed childcare business and hiring foreigners illegally. Additionally, Ukrainian citizen Oleksandr Lipes, 43, was found overstaying his visa by 1,086 days and faces multiple charges for working without a permit and unauthorized business operations. All suspects are currently detained at the Koh Phangan Police Station awaiting further legal action. -- 2025-01-29 -
