Utter rubbish!

The designation SSN is used for interoperability throughout NATO under STANAG 1166 and by non NATO countries;

The following navies currently operate SSNs:

SSN (hull classification symbol) | Military Wiki | Fandom

Now, now. steady on The very first sentence in the same wiki article that you're quoting from says:

SSN is the US Navy hull classification symbol for such vessels. So my statement was not 'utter rubbish'. However as the term has been adopted for us by NATO and other countries I will concede that your use of it was correct.

An interesting factoid from that same article is that the UK  was the first ever country to use an SSN boat in hostile action, when HMS Conqueror sunk the Belgrano during the Falklands war. Following that engagement, not a single Argentinian naval vessel left port during the entire campaign, which does demonstrate the deterrent value of these subs.

Little wonder the Yantar quickly departed UK waters.

    The Ruskies don't trust the Brits one little bit. A bit of history there.   Is 45 miles away from the shore in Brit's waters? Maybe they strayed closer. Don't have to threaten a superpower d

  • Blame victoria nuland for that, she was involved in the coup that ousted the Democratically elected leader

I rather liked this story, had a touch of 'Red October' and cold war.

It's time we collectively grow a pair and assertive ourselves.

A nuke sub surfacing next to a spy ship, hope it scared the sh****t outta that crew

Well done to the Royal Navy, hope we see a lot more of it
