A 20 year old British man was arrested on Tuesday night, January 21, in Patong for possession of cocaine, as police crack down on drug-related offences in Phuket’s popular tourist hotspots. The arrest occurred near Yona Pier on Thawewong Road, commonly known as the Beach Road, around 10.45pm.

Patong Police confirmed the man, whose identity remains undisclosed, was found carrying the illicit drug, classified as a Category 2 narcotic, without proper authorisation. Officers declined to provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the arrest.

The arrest is part of a broader campaign by Patong Police to clamp down on narcotics in the bustling tourist district.

“We are committed to ensuring law and order in Phuket, especially in areas frequented by international visitors.”

Police are urging residents and tourists to report suspicious activities as they ramp up efforts to make Phuket a safer destination. Tips can be submitted via the Patong Police hotline at 076-342769.

As Thailand remains a zero-tolerance country for drug possession and trafficking, tourists are reminded to respect the nation’s strict drug laws or face severe penalties, reported The Phuket News.

Patong Police have reiterated their determination to address drug-related issues and maintain Phuket’s reputation as a premier tourist destination.

  • "Police declined to provide details about the arrest." Sounds suspicious. Either they planted the drugs on him as a way to extort him but as he's only 20, he's not likely to have much and therefo

  • doesn't mean it's ok.  I'm from the old school where drugs were a big no no.  Anyone using drugs is still frowned upon and considered low-lifes.    As it should be.  imo Society doesn't need drug

He is now discovering the difference between UK jails and real (Thai) jails.  Something to write home about.

"Police declined to provide details about the arrest."

Sounds suspicious. Either they planted the drugs on him as a way to extort him but as he's only 20, he's not likely to have much and therefore they had to follow through with the arrest.

Or they were informed by their dealer" friend" that he had just bought some and arrested him in the hope of extorting him but as he's only 20...

So you need authorisation to be be walking around with cocaine now? I wonder which office to have to apply to get your "authorisation " from 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, it's probably the latter one. They usually approach you and ask if you want some, and if you do, they'll sell it to you and then make the call and the cops swoop in. It's called entrapment in other countries, but here it seems to ne legal to do that to someone.

It's a legal term. One could have a legitimate reason why one is carrying it with them. Although, it's usually occupational and doesn't apply to average Joe.

Always the low hanging fruit, when the BIB know who all the dealers are.

Good they got him while he is young before he destroys or kills people with his destructive drugs.

Sounds like he was sold it by some dealer working with the cops and then instantly busted.

Wonder if they gave him a chance to pay a fine or not upon arrest.

If it's on the spot fine it could be anywhere between 10-100,000bht depending on how much they want paid .

Most arrests in Thailand are down to tip-offs.

Dreadful and dangerous misinformation.

The penalty for cocaine possession under 100g is maximum 5 years in prison and/or 100,000thb fine.

Might have to get help from the bank of mum and dad to get out of this one, can only hope he learns a lesson!

You got that first bit right that's for sure old school and out dated, I bet you totally ignored alcohol as a drug though.

how have you adjusted to the fact weed is  legal, No doubt before it was you'd say 'lock them up' when someone was caught with it.
