Drunk Driver Flips SUV in Pattaya, Injuring Three

A heavily intoxicated driver lost control of his SUV and crashed into a parked pickup truck in the early hours of the morning of January 29, causing his vehicle to overturn and leaving three people injured.

 

At approximately 04:45, the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya Rescue Centre received a report of a road crash involving an SUV that had lost control and flipped over after colliding with a parked vehicle. The incident occurred in front of a spirit house shop in Moo 8, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. Rescue teams, along with police investigator Pol. Lt. Manot Thipwet from Bang Lamung Police Station, rushed to the scene.
 

Upon arrival, emergency responders found a white Mitsubishi Pajero SUV with Bangkok registration number, overturned on its side. The vehicle had crashed into a parked bronze Toyota Vigo pickup truck, registered from Bangkok, which was damaged and had been pushed over 10 metres from its original position. Authorities immediately secured the area and prevented bystanders from approaching due to a fuel leak, which posed a fire hazard.

Inside the SUV, three individuals were trapped in the wreckage. Rescue personnel used hydraulic cutting equipment to extricate them safely.

 

The driver, identified as Mr Natthawut, 24, was found to be heavily intoxicated. One of his passengers, Ms Wisuda, 20, suffered a fractured right leg and multiple abrasions, while another passenger, Ms Kanokwan, 20, sustained a head wound and bruises. All three were given first aid at the scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment.

 

Ms Kanokwan later stated that they had been drinking at a bar in Pattaya and were on their way back to Laem Chabang when the collision occurred. However, she was unable to recall the moment of the crash. The driver, Mr Natthawut, was too intoxicated to provide any coherent statement and was reportedly vomiting frequently.

Meanwhile, the owner of the pickup truck stated that he had parked his vehicle by the roadside and was unaware of how the crash had happened.

 

Authorities have transferred all injured parties to hospital and will conduct a blood alcohol test on Mr Natthawut as part of legal proceedings against him, as the investigation continues.
