555 I love the confusion over 12am and 12pm....12am is midnight....12pm is noon. The funniest sign I saw in Pattaya was for a massage shop that had a huge sign saying they were open at 11am and closed 12pm. I guess they were only open for one hour!

 

If they are closing for 24 hours I'm guessing that means from midnight Tuesday night until midnight Wednesday night.

No one is being punished, unless you are an alcoholic addicted to the drug and need to consume it  a tacky bar. You can  still drink at home or with your friends at your homes.

even at the height of my drinking, I rarely opened a drink if I was home alone. the alcohol was never the point of the exercise. 

 

Get real. No one goes for a cocktail at the  crappy beer bars. Those places wouldn't know how to make a decent cocktail  if their lives depended on it. My experience has been that the  major hotels will still be discretely  serving cocktails and some of the private clubs which cater to the  discerning  Asians  will be serving alcohol.  The crappy  beer bar/brothels with their  uncomfortable plastic chairs and filthy tables will have to  stop. It will give some of the staff a much needed chance to rest and maybe get treated for their STIs.

This gets old. And it royally pisses off tourists. Good job, drive them away.

No it does not. The majority of tourists are from China, Malaysia  and India and understand the  restrictions. 5 days without alcohol in a year  are hardly deal breakers. Yes, some western and north Asian  tourists get annoyed. The smart visitors will stock up if they need alcohol. They are allowed to consume during the. holidays. 

So what if the sex tourists  are annoyed? It is not like they are going anywhere else. They are in Thailand because it is all they can afford.

There is no such thing as 12am or 12pm. It's 12 midday or 12 midnight. One reason 24h time was created to prevented confusion.

'Used to' being the operative words. Though personally I couldn't care less that a 4 or 5 days a year are alcohol free. I just drink at home.

Most farangs I know, knew, are borderline Alkys, and I'm pretty sure I'm being kind.  Drinking alcohol every day.

 

Even when I did indulge, I wasn't even a weekend warrior.  Maybe 2X a month.

Like they do every year for Makha Bucha Day and a bunch of other Buddhist holidays to boot.  Go to Makro tomorrow and stock up.  Not the end of the world.  Visit a park or a cafe.  Read a book.
