Just for the sake of curiousity, why did the Irish pub on Soi Convent, the Irish Exchange, close down?

The Irish Xchange to close and re-open as Molly Malone’s

After six years as Bangkok’s finest pub, The Irish Xchange will close its doors on July 31st. On behalf of the management and staff I would like to thank you for your custom and support over the years.

The pub will be closed for renovations until the 1st of September 2007 when it will reopen its doors as Molly Malone’s. The re-branding of the pub is due to the fact that we have been taken over by Molly Malone’s Phuket.

The pub will reopen following substantial remodeling but we would like to assure you that the distinctive character and friendly staff that has made the pub Bangkok’s favorite watering hole will remain. Improvements will include:

* A brand new air conditioning system,

* New keg room and Beer chiller to Guarantee a cooler fresher taste

* Complete New state of the art Sound system with improved stage area

* New Soft Lighting

* Improved Access

* Remodeled safer up stairs access

* Increased Standing Capacity

* Increased Seating Capacity

* New Line of Draft Beers

* New Menu from upgraded kitchen

A bright new-look to the pub

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience while work is carried out on the pub. We are sure you will be delighted with the results and we look forward to welcoming you through the doors of Molly Malone’s on September 1st 2007 for the opening night party!

Best Regards

The supply of Irishmen just dried up, people would come in with two kerry men and a desparate need for a donegal man. Sadly none could be found. After a while they were imprting knock off irishmen made in china with names like Lao Ping O'Mally and Seamus Hang Soin Murphy. These ting tong copies would start to leak Guinness after only a week. In the end it was cheaper to refer people with irish to exchange to to save them up until they had a hundred and then exchange them for one Yorkshire man. Strong intelligent, full of charm with a full head of hair and rippling muscles. In short........Moi

Sounds very good to me!

My two favorite palces here in Phuket: Molly & Scruffy!

Great music, great live music and well trained staff.

Oh...nearly forgot the great food.

Regards to Ken and P.

Since when do the moderators allow the manager of this bar, who posted the above, allow advertising. A little research shows that mark also has another account here and replies to himself on several account. What a TROLL!

wasnt this the place run by criminals?

Don't think anyone really knows, since transparency is not the name of the game here.

The boiler room raids netted few of the controllers, {funny that} but one of the people who was fined was alleged to be the 'owner' of one of the iterations of this place. He made a point of holding a press conference stating he was not.

There's a poster herein who waxes lyrical about anyone who drinks there being guilty of moral turpitude owing to the alleged connexion.

Just want to ask if anyone knows what the football team will call themselves now?

And yes, that's the second time I've asked.

Same here. The quality of service of the staff and especially the manager was much better :o
It's hard to imagine a better casual atmosphere bartender in Thailand than Khun Tan, that guy would rate well anywhere in the world. I've always liked the rest of the staff quite well too, though, and I wasn't around when it was Delaney's, but absence does make the heart grow fonder. It'll be good to have him back in the neighborhood.

I, too, missed the Delaney's era. But agree with you there that Tan is amazing. Most of the staff were pretty good also, although there were a couple unpleasant incidents happened to my friends. But that's normal.

Looking forward to Molly Malone's. :bah:

The Irish Xchange was the first bar I stopped by when I first arrived in Bangkok. And for the last (almost) 4 years, it has been like a second home to me. I will miss it a lot. However, if the staff remains the same, then, I will happily come back as they make a great difference with other pubs!

cheers :o

Agreed, Tan is a great barman and so is Nui actually, she has also been there since Delaney's days.
