Can you recommend best airline to fly from Bangkok to New York.

It's actually shorter to go that way also.  The long flights from Asia to New York go far north over Alaska and northern Canada which is shorter than if you go the other way and route through the middle east closer to the equator.

I like the idea of departing at a civilized time of the morning where Ive had a good nights sleep prior. Then arrive in the States at night time and get to sleep at 11pm in the 5 star hotel. Jetlag is less the next day perhaps?

For ultra long-haul, non-stop, especially from and to NE Asia but the actual routing on the day still depends on the (forecast) winds.

Singaore Air has a direct flight from SIN to either EWR or JFK.    It’s 17 to 19 hours of flying time.

That's a tough requirement.

Browsed through the 30 fastest connections and only AirCanada via Vancouver does 787 on both legs (can't see whether  "-9").

 

Starts with long leg:

 

8:35 AM to 6:55 AM (13h 20m)

 

8:40 AM to 4:51 PM (5h 11m)

 

Others do 787 only on short leg within Asia.

I would definitely recommend not to transit in Canada.  All transit passengers on international flights arriving in Canada need to go through Canada immigration and customs.  If the OP's family is Thai, they may even need a transit visa for Canada.  Much better to choose one of the many airlines with easy transit airports.

Back when Thai had the non-stops from BKK to LAX & JFK, the LAX flight went over the Pacific, and the JFK flight went over the Atlantic. 

 

I'm sure they go whichever way is cheaper, and the cheaper way, is the faster way.

Depending on how often you plan to fly, once I made gold on Emirates, I got lounge access for two and I got upgraded quite often. They even upgraded all three of us once (LAX-DXB) and I was the only gold card.
