Visa Exemption to Visa question

Hi everyone, a few months ago I posted that we were not able to extend my dad's retirement visa because we touched the money after extension. So, we were able to do a border bounce at Chiang Kong and comeback with visa exemption stamp.  Having collected all the documents as if I was extending retirement visa, we went to Phayao immigration. 

After all the checks they stamped something and asked to comeback in a month, we did, and we got another stamp which I posted here the photo. Only this one is until March 15 now, I am a bit puzzled why it is not a year. The staff was as usual not friendly or helpful. She said this is not a visa yet, but it seems like it is.

1.. I asked does my dad need to do 90 days, she said NO.

2. Most important question I asked, what documents do I need to bring next time, she said I will tell you later. 

 

Can someone please explain what is that stamp and how is it going to work next time? What documents will we need next time?  Very puzzled, I really want to start doing it soon as next month I am planning to go travel.

Your father received a Non O visa and was given a 90 day permission of stay stamp.

After the 800k has been in his Thai bank account for 2 months he will apply for 12 month extension.

Obviously that application for extension must be made prior to expiry of current stamp. (March 15).

You can apply up to 30 days prior to march 15.

Thank you, so I assume all documents that are needed are the same as for Retirement visa extension, right? Wonder, why did she say I will tell you later.  

I believe for the first extension of retirement visa; the statement doesn't have to be for a whole year, right?

Correct. 

Most immigration offices would even accept the bank book along with photocopy of pages.

You could provide a 3 month bank statement.

The main requirement for the extension is the financials.

Other items such as map to where you live etc are office specific. 

Folk will (rightly so) suggest you make application for extension couple of weeks prior to expiry of current permission of stay stamp in case immigration want something you did not bring. 

For example a TM30 etc.

Thank you DrJack, I assume I can go and extend before that date, because money has been in the bank way before we even bounced in Chiang Kong. Last time they said for the first extension as we originally did before we lost that visa, for one day only statement. But heck I will do 3 because they always nitpicking on things. About other documents I am not sure, I need to go there and actually ask them, I guess. 

I am hoping that the new regulation about tax for income from abroad is not in play here or at least for the first extension. Don't know who would think to tax a state pension, which was already a tax at some point, but let's see.

Bring me up to speed.

So you are asking about obtaining a 12 month extension and NOT obtaining a Non O retirement visa? 

 

If an extension then yes with funds in bank for 2 months you can apply for extension up to 30 days remaining on permission of stay or 45 early at some offices

After we comeback from border bounce, we got this stamp a month after we applied. I assume as you said this is non-O visa for 3 months. Then next step would be to ger that extended for 1 year.  We got this stamp on 2nd January, the 800k has been there since September already.

Yes this is the Non O 

Your stamp has an expiry.

Apply for the 12 month extension up to 30 days prior to this expiry date (most offices) or

I will go there tomorrow to get a list of documents that are needed, just in case anything has changed.
