In a major breakthrough, police in Nonthaburi dismantled a drug trafficking network, seizing a staggering 560,000 methamphetamine pills, alongside 218 kilograms of crystal meth and 3,163 ecstasy pills. The total narcotics haul, valued at over 50 million baht, was discovered at a dormitory in the Bang Kraso subdistrict yesterday.

The operation was spearheaded by Police Lieutenant General Surapol Prembut and Police Major General Kittithanate Thanananthaveesin, in cooperation with military intelligence units. Arrested was Pongthep, 30, charged with possession of narcotics with intent to distribute. The bust followed investigations linked to the network of Apivit Sa-arddee.

Officers found the drugs hidden in vehicles parked among civilian cars, ready for distribution. A search revealed keys to a vehicle hiding the narcotics, along with 88 grams of ketamine, firearms, mobile phones, and cars.

Pongthep confessed to receiving instructions via the LINE app on when to retrieve and deliver the drugs. Payments for his services ranged from 30,000 to 50,000 baht per delivery, placed strategically along Phra Ram 5 Road.

Already facing two arrest warrants for robbery and illegal possession of ketamine, firearms, and ammunition, Pongthep's involvement in this major network underscores the pervasive issue of drug trafficking using metropolitan areas as hubs, said Police Lieutenant General Surapol Prembut, reported The Thaiger.
