Three Construction Workers Shocked by Power Line, Two in Critical Condition

Three construction workers suffered severe electrical burns after a power line was struck by par of a metal construction frame during renovation work. Two workers are in a critical condition.

 

On 20th February, Police Lieutenant Pojanat Ketklao of Nong Chang Police Station, Uthai Thani, received a report of an electric shock incident at a building under renovation on Soi Saeng Chan, Nong Chang Subdistrict, Nong Chang District. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene.

 

The incident occurred at a two-storey commercial building undergoing extensive renovations. Workers were installing a steel framework for the roof when a metal beam accidentally made contact with an overhead power line. The electric current surged through the metal structure, shocking three workers.

 

Emergency rescue teams from the Uthai Thani Rescue Unit (Nong Chang division) isolated the electrical supply, then climbed onto the roof to assist the injured workers before transporting them to Nong Chang Hospital. Two of the victims, both Myanmar nationals, sustained severe burns, one suffering full-body burns, while the second had serious burns on his left arm from his hand to his elbow. The third victim, a Thai national, remained conscious and was able to communicate. The two most severely injured workers were later transferred to Uthai Thani Hospital for further treatment.

 

Investigators found that the metal framework for the roof had been installed dangerously close to the power lines. While attempting to manoeuvre a steel beam into place, workers inadvertently touched the power line, triggering the electrical discharge. The shock not only injured the workers but also caused the metal beam to fall into an adjacent house.

 

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
