The upcoming Cobra Gold 2025, a pivotal joint military exercise spearheaded by the United States, is scheduled for 25 February to 7 March in Thailand. This significant event arrives as tensions simmer in the South China Sea, with ongoing maritime stand-offs primarily involving the Philippines and China.

 

Aimed at enhancing the combat readiness and interoperability of allied forces, Cobra Gold features participation from key nations, including Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Indonesia. Set across various strategic locations such as Nakhon Ratchasima and Sattahip, the exercise will involve military units carrying out tactical combat drills, humanitarian missions, and disaster relief efforts, underscoring its comprehensive nature.

 

 

First held in 1982, Cobra Gold remains the largest of its kind in the Indo-Pacific region. While traditionally robust, the exercise has sometimes reduced in scale during periods of political instability in Thailand. However, its return this year highlights the steadfast relationship between Thailand and the US, reinforcing a commitment to regional stability amid growing maritime tensions, reported Thai Newsroom.

The prospect of any country's military invading and occupying Thailand is ludicrous.

The US and China both want influence here.

   Let them come up with some solutions for the #1 health issue in Thailand - air pollution caused by agricultural burning.

Singapore has had success recently by going after the companies responsible for it wherever they are in the region.

That's what they all should be doing instead of engaging in these farcical military excercises.

Yes, interesting how they can spend millions on military games that does nothing other than trying to impress others. but we're very quick to turn-off the money to health care that is actually useful - says a lot for the current leaders.

Do you honestly believe that any additional money the US dumped into Thai health care would actually filter down to Thai health care?

 

I just got back from Kanchanaburi, where I visited the Allied graveyards and the Bridge on the River Kwai.  That's what happened when Thailand was invaded and occupied by a foreign military.

The US is wasting their money, Thailand traditionally sits on the fence till a winner becomes obvious. They got it wrong backing the nippers in WWII but they will be more careful next time. So for now they are keeping their options open.

Only some backed the nips, there was a very active and effective anti-nip movement during that time.

And do you honestly think that the money spent by the  US playing military games is for the benefit of Thailand. The US are only interested in any country / area that is to their short term benefit and will turn their back on it the minute things don't work out for then.
