  As long as they were sat down and eating their food and not eating whilst walking long the street , thats the most important thing

Pai is a lovely, quaint little mountain village.

 

It's even better without tourists.

One of the main issues the Thais have with the Israelis is they don’t let Thais (or other non Jews) into their enclave.

The fact that it’s also off limits to Thais will likely, if not inevitably, continue to be a cause of contention to some Thais ...

If they don’t like the prices they should just move on.

Eating the food and then negotiating a discount after you have eaten is very ugly behavior.

It's jus CHEAP MASS TOURISM with a horrific experience. The government opening the borders to the world is what is driving the insane volume of numbers of cheap tourists.

I have a good friend who lives there, she recently opened a Wellness Sanctuary called 'Mystic Village' in Pai.

Quite a lot of slim, attractive, young Western (or Westernised) women in Pai.  

Pity it's not a big modern city.

It would be nice to visit for a short holiday, but I could never live somewhere so undeveloped.

It's full of party goers now. I went for a few days. You had isrealis, Russians and Benidorm Brits there - the party variety. Awful, absolute garbage level of people. 7/11 was busy cos these cheap skates were dining on cheap cheese toasties, and swigging leftover beer they could find lying around. 

 

If Pai is going to trash itself, at least get some proper tourism money in.

It is on the backpacker trail. It has the facilities and attractions that backpackers want.

 

If a backpacker steps off the backpacker trail, the straightforward becomes difficult. The majority remain on the trail.

 

It is a genre of mass tourism.

lived there one year in 2005 and visit at least once a year to this day to visit my uncle. My brother lived there for 8 years too along with my dad before he passed so I have an ok enough idea of what's going on.

That's precisely the appeal though! There are today a number of upper class resorts you can stay at but the average age of the tourist is like 29 so you could be overwhelmed on that front.
