Finally leading to the conclusion that Donald doesn't give a hoot about a US/European friendship that lasted for 80 years. Benefitting both. By persuing this strategy, the US will end up with no friends in the end. But having to deal with a formidable new enemy: China. With no friends left.

Seems you don't understand Trump very well, with your but but but 80 years of friendship irrelevance.

Trump, IMO, doesn't give a rat's bottom for all that, and considers the Euros to have been taking the US for a ride, and it's going to all stop now under D Trump.

Trump only cares about the US ( and for some inexplicable reason a certain other country ), and if the others want to be friends with the US, on US terms that's OK, but if they don't, well that's going to be their problem. Trump doesn't have friends- he has business partners.

BTW, what BENEFIT did the US get out of paying the lion's share of the costs of the "friendship" with the Euros? They get military bases closer to the enemy, but what else do they get for the US $? Plenty countries get deals and friendly relations with other countries without having to pay to protect them.

You guys are a hoot. Euros hate each other. Countries trade for money not friendship.....

Lets all be friends....

Quite right too. Euros have been fighting each other since they were countries, for centuries.

They got quite the unfair political say, especially in German politics. I for one am very happy when they finally have to pack their bags and leave Ramstein airbase. Already as a kid I hated their fighter jets overhead, and after 80 years, we will be finally rid of their undue influence.

What else did the Americans get? The dollar being the world's reserve currency. Here, again, the Euro is so much better suited, maybe in a basket with the Yuan for Asian trade. I am, again, happy, that we Europeans will not have to pay for the disastrous US debt policies any more, after the Americans will have strangled themselves with tariffs on Chinese products.

So I think it better to ask, what did the Europeans get out of their "friendship" with the Americans?

They got to give up paying for a military that mattered, so they could afford to support all those illegals they welcomed to stay at their expense.

How did that work out for them?

Pretty good so far. I love pizza and döner, but lately I also have a favorite Syrian falafel restaurant.

My daughter goes to primary school and besides Thai and English at home she has beginning knowledge of a few Ukrainian phrases because she bonded quite strongly with a kid from a lovely couple fleeing from the war. Her other friends (besides all the german kids) are Lebanese and Italian, and as a result I am very sure that she will be able to move confidently through life in an international setting.

Quite the difference to me, having been a German country boy from a small city, with the most useless school english imaginable going wide-eyed into a not always friendly wide, wide world.

Soooo, the man doesn't care enough about his country to fight for it. That says a lot about why Ukraine is losing the war against the most useless army on the planet.

Well you got your country back, so we'll be happy to leave. Just remember, you better behave in Europe so we don't have to come take care of you again.

We should send you an invoice for 80 years of air cover and jet fuel.

Funny how Trump supporters praise him for not having started a war and yet make threats to wage it once again. More hubris.

A threat? Telling the notorious Killers to behave otherwise we'll have to take them out? Where do you live Mr comment on everybody else's country?

If a nation needs "tariff protection", it means that we can not compete in a globalised world. To secure Ukrainian resources would soften the economical incompetifeness of the US. Outside of "silicon-valley" nothing much is happening.

America has not been competitive for more than 50 years. It used to make half the world's steel, now it makes one-tenth of what China does.

China has 48,000 km of high speed rail. America has 80 km.

John Froelich invented the first gasoline - powered tractor in Iowa, back in 1892.

The fact Kubota has 40% of market share for tractors in America says it all.

Kubota makes most of its consumer products in the USA. Uniformed as usual.

Its hard to be competitive in building railways when you cant use slave labour and rape the environment. Built in advantage of the Socialists, life means nothing in comparison to the achievement of the socialist future.

Since you use the plural, I'm assuming that you are referring to German people. . Given that The Third Reich fell about 80 years ago, the number of Germans complicit in war crimes must be vanishingly few by now. Or is it the case that you believe in inherited guilt? That ridiculous notion has been used to heinous effect against the Jews for about 2000 years.

Now, if you mean German fans of the Third Reich are somehow culpable, that would be the AfD. You know, the group praised by J.D. Vance and Elon Musk.
