Father and Son Killed in Motorbike Crash After Visiting Amulet Market
Picture from responders. A father and son were killed in a road crash after their motorbike was struck by a speeding car in Ratchaburi. CCTV footage captured the devastating collision, which took place on Phetkasem Road in Tha Rab Subdistrict, Mueang District. Police and emergency services arrived at the scene to find a black Proton car with a crumpled front end and a detached rear fittings, parked by the roadside. The driver, identified as Sarawut Kongthongjeen, 38, from Nakhon Si Thammarat, sustained injuries and was taken to Ratchaburi Hospital for treatment. Nearby, officers discovered a severely damaged red-and-black Yamaha motorbike, along with the lifeless bodies of Jetsada Boonart, 39, and his father Boonsoek Boonart, 60. Both men, who were from Photharam District, had been thrown from their bike upon impact, with one landing against a wall. Initial investigations revealed that the father and son had spent the morning browsing and purchasing Buddhist amulets at the Kobkul Market in Tha Rab. As they were riding home on their motorbike, with Boonsoek driving and Jetsada sitting pillion, they were struck from behind by the Proton car, which was travelling at high speed. The force of the impact sent them crashing into a wall and a utility pole, killing them instantly. Police are now examining CCTV footage from the area to establish the exact cause of the crash and determine whether the driver of the car will face legal action. -- 2025-03-06 -

A rescue worker in Rayong had a terrifying experience when the decomposing finger of a deceased man suddenly detached and struck her in the face during a body recovery operation. The rescue team had been called to retrieve the body of Mr. Sarawut, 25, who was found hanging from the rafters of a house. His head was dangling downward, with his right hand gripping a roof beam and his left hand tightly clutching an electrical cable. As the team discussed their plan to remove the body, the little finger of Mr. Sarawut’s left hand, which had fused to the wire, but due to decomposition the finger suddenly dropped off and hit a female rescue worker waiting below, full in the face. Startled, she let out a loud scream and ran from the building. Police believe Mr. Sarawut died from electrocution while attempting to steal electrical wiring. A search of his body revealed wire-cutting tools and 205 baht in cash. Local reported that he had recently claimed to have won a substantial sum in the national lottery on 1 March. Following his windfall, he had quit his job as a tradesman. Reports also suggest he also had a history of drug-related activity. Authorities continue to investigate the incident. -- 2025-03-06- 1
