The Phnom Penh Municipal Administration will upgrade the product stalls at Walk Street to make them more appealing and better organised.

Phnom Penh's bustling Walk Street, a promising new initiative by the capital's administration, is set to revamp its offerings with innovative art performances and comedic acts to enhance visitor engagement. Spokeswoman Dor Samphors announced these dynamic changes, alongside a redesign of the product layout to boost its appeal to tourists. The walkway has received accolades from both locals and international visitors, marking a triumphant five-week run.

Samphors expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards all stakeholders, including vendors, who showed remarkable cooperation and flexibility during the temporary road closures necessary for the project's realization. The street's popular reception owes much to its vibrant array of traditional arts and culture, which continues to attract day-trippers and tourists alike.

"Our aim is to keep our programming rich and varied, ensuring a vibrant experience for our visitors, preventing monotony," Samphors stated. To this end, Walk Street has hosted a plethora of engaging activities: from souvenir stalls and traditional music performances to cultural dances, a mobile library, and even magic shows.

Efforts to enhance accessibility include modifications to Route 1C and an extension of public bus operational hours till 11 pm every weekend. Operating on Saturdays and Sundays from 6 pm to 11 pm, Walk Street stretches from Street 94 to the Royal Palace along Preah Sisowath Quay. In its first five weeks, the venture has secured a safe and orderly environment for both businesses and the public, underscored by zero security incidents.

Local youth Sa Mao has lauded Walk Street as a delightful addition to the city. “Saturday nights are more animated, as we walk amidst a lively crowd enjoying the arts. It connects us not just to each other but also to the rich tapestry of our past," he shared. Mao is enthusiastic about seeing an increase in captivating performances, such as traditional Khmer music and classical dance, which enrich the atmosphere with joy and cultural pride.

Mao dreams of expanded communal spaces like Walk Street, believing such places significantly enhance life quality by fostering community interactions. "These spaces are vital for relaxation and creating enduring memories, especially after a busy workday," he added.
