Football Match Turns Violent: Player Suffers Broken Arm in Targeted Attack - video

A 38-year-old football player suffered a broken arm during a heated seven-a-side match on March 9 at the Song Singh field in Samut Prakan’s Mueang district. The injured player, Ritnarong, has filed a police report, accusing his opponent, known only as Pae, of intentional aggression rather than playing the sport fairly.

 

Ritnarong provided both a medical certificate and video evidence to Samrong Nua Police Station, supporting his testimony to Police Lieutenant Weerapong Boontor. During the match, Pae allegedly kicked Ritnarong in the chest, face, and left arm, resulting in fractures in two places.

 

The match, part of a league competition with a 7,000 baht prize, had previously been incident-free, but tensions flared during the game against Pae’s team. Ritnarong claimed Pae accused him of badmouthing, which led to an escalation in aggressive play. Despite repeated fouls, the referee initially issued only a yellow card.

 

 

As the game continued, Pae intensified his focus on Ritnarong with a forceful kick to the chest, knocking him down. The assault escalated with kicks to the face and arm, culminating in a broken limb. Pae then confronted Ritnarong, saying, “Are you not done yet?” before being issued a red card towards the match's conclusion, which Ritnarong's team won 3-1.

 

Expressing his confusion over the referee's hesitance to penalise Pae sooner, Ritnarong suggested this might be due to Pae’s team being the home side. He emphasised that such deliberate aggression is unprecedented in his experience, where players usually apologise following on-pitch clashes.

 

Ritnarong has vowed to pursue legal action against Pae, refusing any out-of-court settlement. Police are expected to summon Pae for further questioning as they proceed with the investigation. This incident highlights the importance of sportsmanship and proper officiating in maintaining the integrity of competitive sports, reported The Thaiger.

I wonder what "proper officiating" is.  Being a referee, especially in all the leagues below a country's top one, is no picnic.  Referees are as fallible as everyone else, and their "officiating" may be badly affected by something as trivial as an argument with the missis as he left for the game....

I'm a referee.  I see several red card incidents in this video.  The game should have been abandoned.  

 

But, what pressure is the referee under to NOT handle this as it obviously should be?  Would the Association handling this league support him?  Fine/ban the players?  The team managers banned too?  The clubs dismissed from the league including all players, and management?

 

I know where I live the Association is gawd awful.  They rarely back the officials.  Even where a crime (common assault) has happened on the pitch, with video evidence, a player didn't get banned.  I got several more examples of this.
