British Retirees Escape Thai Jail After Violent Land Dispute

This case just gets stranger. It turns out that they actually pleaded guilty at the trial despite insisting that they wanted their 'day in court' just a couple of days ago.

So foolish but understandable because they obviously buy into the narrative that you see on this topic that the farang is uniquely oppressed by the Thai legal system.

Having watched the CCTV, there is simply no way the judge would have found them guilty. The only possibility is that the CCTV has been edited in their favour; I notice that the beginning of the fight is not available for viewing. Did they provoke? Who punched first?

They can only Lease it. 30 years, 30 years, 30 years totalling 90 years. You buy the house on one contract and lease the land on another contract. any other way is not legal.

You can only lease for 30 years. Guarantee of further leases has been ruled invalid.

That was not reported to be the case, the legal fees were not disclosed.

They said he had to sell in order to cover the legal fees so make of that what you will.

Exactly, I'll make of it what it actually said.  It did not report that the legal fees were the cost of the villa.

Why would they have to stay back home.

Plenty of other more friendly retirement destinations to go to.

Thailand is not the be all and end all.

Retirement funds depleted already
