How many times have you ran into these self appointed experts on virtually every topic under the sun? To me it could be a daily occurrence in the many beer bars.

 

Sometimes I think to myself that the crack pots I run into have finally found a place where people understand just how important they think they are. Just look for the ever nodding Thai girlfriends!

It's a running joke amongst the more grounded and rational individuals I've met.

 

A constant source of free entertainment. Much of it on this board!

I have never run into a "self appointed expert" in East Pattaya.

Maybe your holiday plans need to change from central Pattaya.🙃🙃

Sounds like the OP needs a change of scenery if Pattaya is too traumatic for him.

Yes I've definitely noticed it, in fact i avoid eye contact as that's an invite for them to talk garbage, the classic is when they ask how long have you been here, they are desperately waiting to score points here, one crazy swede said 1978 arrived

  Luckily, I have better things to do with my time, and more enjoyable for me, than hanging out in beer bars--in Pattaya or anywhere else.

Exactly. The same problem with the honest bar girl that truly does love you, would you write her off just because she spent 4 years banging 488 guys`?

Lots of expats some on this forum have been living in Thailand,  myself included long before 1978.

Nothing special about 'experts' in bars in Pattaya. They exist in every bar I've ever been into, all over the world.

I have meet some foreigners that been living in Thailand for decades.Everyone been nice so far.

I ask if they learn to speak thai and some say yes.. speak well they say until i start speaking thai with them and after 1 minute i know the truth.It also happens that their wifes or gf tell them that their lying about their thai skills 

I meet a guy from Norway in surin some years ago..he said he could speak thai wery well..

I sat with him and his thai wife I started speak thai to him and everything i said or asked him in thai he said KAP.

I asked him in thai if he want me to knock out his teeths and even then he said KAP.His wife start laughing and told me he didn't understand anything i talking about.So we turned over to english speaking.

That's because most of them are on Soi 6.

Any one who does visit beer bars has no doubt had someone sit beside him that after less than five minutes you are ready to slice your wrist to get away from him...either incredibly stupid, ignorant, arrogant, or maybe all of the above or in some cases you actually do run into a few guys who are very pleasant to sit and talk with and can even learn a few new things or at least share some stories.

 

The trick is to learn to get up and leave asap when u get the idiot types that sit next to you. Generally they will not get any more pleasant after having a few more beers.  I can chug a beer very quickly when i suddenly remember that  i have to be somewhere.  

 

Every ass sitting on every bar stool likely has a lot of stories...it is not required that you listen to them.

 

But there are some gems scattered through all the gravel that indeed are very interesting guys to have a chat with for an hour or two.

As long as they're buying the drinks and 'company', I have no problems sitting with them.
