Hi there, I'm 80 yo and going ok but my weight has spiralled out of control over the past 3-4 months. I eat very basic food, all steamed, no fat, sugar or salt. I walk 90 minutes daily at 6.30 am. Over the past year I've restricted my drinking to 2 large beers per day. At breakfast  I eat one slice of sourdough bread, maybe a boiled egg, tomato and letteuce. For lunch I eat skinned roast chicken and vegetables, steamed or salad. I don't eat dinner but I eat a banana and sugar free yoghurt one hour before going to bed. What's my next step tape up my mouth?

I see this, as being your problem areas ...

"I eat very basic food, all steamed, no fat, sugar or salt"  ...

... you need fat & protein, as they will help regulate the burning of fat.   Stop believing the BS.  High fat & protein, along with low sugar diet lifestyle.  You need salt also.

... "I've restricted my drinking to 2 large beers per day" ...

... defeats your 'no sugar' thinking. Beer is nothing but a carb = sugar

... " I eat one slice of sourdough bread" ...

... equals more carbs = sugar,  Although admit to a bread addiction myself.  Try to eat you starchy carbs (bread, potatoes, rice, pasta) after your fat & protein, as will slow the sugar / insulin spike during digestion.

...  "eat a banana and sugar free yoghurt one hour before going to bed" ...

... that's about the worst time to eat anything, before going to sleep, unless your next meal is about 16 hrs later.   Along with eating sugar, and suggest you read the ingredients of the yoghurt.  To repeat, fat is not the enemy.

Let the ketones do their thing, overnight, between your last meal, and your first meal the next day.  Best to do an intermittent fast for 16 ish hrs +/-.   Of which 8 of those, will be while you are sleeping.   So if your last meal is at 1800 hrs, and you first the next day is 0800 hs, you've just fasted for 14 hrs with no effort at all.

That is what has worked for me.  I fast from 2000 - 1100 hrs.  Went from a high of 100 kg, to a constant of <80 kgs since on a low sugar (not low carb) keto ish dining lifestyle, with intermittent fasting.

Along with the proven weight management, with no effort.  Eat anything I want between 1200 - 2000 hrs, except high sugar, simply or complex (starchy carbs, potatoes, pasta, rice), my blood work is perfect now.

BP below 120/80  vs past 140/95

Glucose @ 5.3 vs past 6.3

BMI normal

No inflammation

You'll have 5 people tell you I'm all wrong, but facts speak for themselves.   It simply works for me.  Suggest you give a try for 30-90 days.  I can't hurt.   Forget & ignore everything they've lied to you about eating & good health ... IMHO

These are the foods I eat, and available in TH.

More Keto approved food at link.  I'm far from strict Keto diet, hence 'keto-ish'
