That depends if you are more concerned about the victim or the perpetrator. Long sentences may or not be effective in rehabilitating perpetrators, but the longer people are locked up, the less danger they are to potential victims. Recidivism rates only include those who are caught. In reality, many reoffend after release but are now better informed and experienced in terms of getting away with it. Most leftists are more concerned with perpetrators than victims. -

"Defund the police", the dribblings of a very few far left, was an abomination and an affront to all that is good and decent, but beating and bear spraying 140 police officers was a "lovefest" and "just typical tourists", carried out by "patriots" whom POTUS not only said "we love you very much", but he pardoned all of what he called "hostages" and is now talking about paying them reparations for lost income while incarcerated. Yes, MAGAs are Hypocrites, capital H.
