According to Trump, Thailand is taxing US Imports with 72%. In future US Expats in Thailand will have to pay 72% Import Tax if they import US Dollars.

At least that's what will happen if Thailand uses the same logic Trump uses......

Introducing a system where the US people have to pay 36% extra tax to the US government if they want to go to the shop and buy anything would not make any sense to the average Thai (or anyone else)

Actually it is calculated based on some formula around trade surplus which Thailand has with the USA.  Not directly related to import duties applied by Thailand. I am pretty sure the duty does not apply to buying cash dollars.....

Heaven helps. Of course not.

But it seems pretty clear that US wants to weaken the Dollar.

That will hurt you more than some delicatessen prices rising even more.

If you are lucky the weakening of the Thai Baht will compensate.

If China get pi$$ed off and decides to dump a small proportion of the USD they hold in their currency reserves, then the USD wont be worth toilet paper.

Cannot think of anything China "needs" to import from US that they cannot get elsewhere. It will drive them closer to Russia for sure
