American Man Found Dead in Apparent Suicide in Phuket Home

A tragic discovery in Phuket has left neighbours in shock after a 73-year-old American man was found dead in what appears to be a suicide. Authorities believe Martin Neil Gregory  intentionally inhaled cooking gas, leading to his death.

 

Police Lieutenant Colonel Rapiphan Chumtham of Patong Police Station responded to the incident at around 6.35pm on April 9. The report prompted a swift investigation by Police Colonel Chalermchai Hirasawat, along with forensic officers from Vachira Phuket Hospital and Kusontham Foundation rescue workers, at the home in Soi Na Nai 9, Patong.

 

Upon arrival, police found Neilgrego's lifeless body on the floor with a plastic bag over his head and a gas line from a nearby cooking gas tank inserted into the bag. The scene suggested a deliberate act, as concluded by forensic and medical personnel.

 

The forensic doctor estimated that Neilgrego had been deceased for 12 to 24 hours. The setup of the scene led authorities to suspect that the method was premeditated.

 

 

 

The deceased was discovered by a neighbour named Buarian, who became concerned after noticing Neilgrego's stillness. "I called out to him, but there was no response. When I checked, I realised he had died," she recounted, prompting her to alert the police.

 

Neilgrego’s body has been transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for a formal autopsy to confirm the cause of death. Meanwhile, police have registered the case as a probable suicide and are coordinating with the American embassy to inform Neilgrego's relatives for further arrangements regarding funeral proceedings.

May MARTIN NEAL GREGORY rest in peace. I first met him when he arrived in Phuket some 25 years ago when he arrived in Phuket and rented a home from our company, and where he died. He was a quiet American, fit man who went to the gym every morning. Early to bed, no smoking or drinking, and no drugs AFAIK.

No live-in lady or companion. A very good tenant, and my wife and I are shocked to hear about his demise.
