An incident has shaken the community following the fatal stabbing of a 26-year-old final-year engineering student in Pathum Thani. The victim, Mr. Thanat, was ambushed and stabbed multiple times by a group of more than ten youths.

Authorities are investigating the motive, with early reports suggesting his belongings, including an iPad, mobile phone, and bag, were left untouched, but his engineering workshop jacket was missing.

Mr. Thanat was a fourth-year student at a Rajamangala University of Technology and was undergoing an internship in the Bang Phun area. He had reportedly finished work and was believed to have stopped to buy food before returning home when the attack occurred.

Eyewitnesses stated that a group of teenagers surrounded and assaulted the young man before fleeing the scene. The student suffered fatal stab wounds to the right side of his torso, right wrist, chest, abdomen, and left arm.

Mr. Theerasak, the victim’s father, expressed deep grief at the scene. He revealed that his son, who was his only child, had not contacted him after work as usual. He only learned of the tragedy when contacted by authorities.

Mr. Chokthanawat, a colleague and close friend of the victim’s father, shared that Thanat was a diligent and determined young man who was working hard to complete a report for his internship. “He was just talking to me earlier today about how proud his father was and how he had to stay focused on his career. It’s heartbreaking. He didn’t deserve this,” said Mr. Chokthanawat.

He also explained that Thanat typically parked his vehicle at home and commuted with him to the internship site. They had dinner together the evening of the incident before parting ways. Later, Mr. Theerasak called to inform him of the attack.

The case has raised concerns about youth violence and safety in the area. While the attackers’ motive remains unclear, the missing workshop jacket has led investigators to consider whether the assault was related to university rivalry or a targeted theft of the symbolic garment.

Police are continuing their investigation and have urged anyone with information to come forward.

Three Teens Confess to Fatal Attack on Engineering Student Over College Jacket

Three teenagers, aged 16 to 18, have confessed to the brutal killing of an engineering student in a shocking case that has sparked outrage across Thailand. The motive behind the attack: to steal the victim’s college jacket.

Police in Pathum Thani arrested Ananop “Kong” (18), Nadee (17), and Pum (16) in connection with the death of 26-year-old Thanat, a student at Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi. Thanat was attacked and fatally injured beneath the pedestrian bridge at Khlong Nueng, near the Red Bridge on Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road, in Thanyaburi district.

According to police, the suspects were apprehended within two days of the incident following a thorough investigation that included reviewing CCTV footage and applying advanced forensic techniques.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Yutthana Jonkhun, Commander of Pathum Thani Provincial Police, alongside other senior officers, announced the arrest of the three suspects during a press briefing on 13 April. Investigators revealed that the teenagers had arrived at the scene on two motorcycles and collectively assaulted the victim.

During initial questioning, all three suspects admitted their roles in the fatal attack. Pum reportedly used a sharpened steel object, known locally as a “sharp scraper”, to stab Thanat. After the stabbing, the suspects disposed of the weapon and the stolen college jacket in a pond near Phrom Rangsri Temple in Bangkok’s Don Mueang district.

The attackers claimed that the violence stemmed from an argument between Ananop and the victim, when their motorcycles nearly collided. Ananop allegedly called the other two to join him in following Thanat to the scene of the attack, where they carried out the assault before fleeing.

Police later took the three suspects back to the scene to re-enact the crime as part of the investigative process. Pum, the alleged stabber, expressed remorse during the re-enactment, apologising to the victim and his family, and stating he wanted to atone for his actions. He insisted the weapon was meant for self-defence and that he stabbed the victim only once.

The incident has sparked renewed debate in Thailand about youth violence, gang culture, and the symbolic value of college jackets in student identity.

How considerate of him, to only stab once. If it was for self defense, why stab at all?

Besides that. 3 guys want to steal a jacket, so why not just hit the guy 2-3 times and take the jacket? They are lying! They wanted to kill him, but stole the jacket to have a story to tell if get caught.

Killing another just to get their college jacket.  Presumably a "rival" college.  How sad to ruin so many lives for such a meaningless reason.
