Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has confirmed that Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will visit Thailand on 17 April, as part of a broader ASEAN initiative aimed at strengthening regional unity and engaging in constructive dialogue with the United States.

Speaking at Lhong Him Kao in Chiang Mai, Thaksin said Anwar, currently serving as ASEAN Chair, would be meeting with the Thai government and Prime Minister for discussions. A number of ASEAN presidential advisers from various member states are also expected to attend.

According to Thaksin, the agenda will focus on addressing regional issues, including strengthening ASEAN’s manufacturing base and reinforcing economic cooperation among member nations. He emphasised that ASEAN aims to play a more prominent role in talks with the United States and will also discuss the ongoing conflict and pursuit of peace in Myanmar.

When asked whether a united ASEAN front would carry more weight in discussions with Donald Trump, Thaksin stressed the importance of approaching talks not with a confrontational or transactional mindset, but as strategic partners.

“We won’t be negotiating in a give-and-take manner. Most ASEAN countries still require significant development support, and we want the US to understand the region’s crucial role,” Thaksin said. “We will be speaking as allies, not adversaries.”

He also noted that many members of Trump’s team are already familiar with key ASEAN figures, suggesting the groundwork for diplomatic engagement is already in place.

When asked whether this show of unity could help ease concerns among the public, Thaksin responded optimistically: “I believe it will. It shouldn’t cause any trouble for Thailand.”

If anyone in Thailand really cared about this man's interference in government affairs the Press would be obliged not to cover and report his every move.

Well he speaks a lot but that's all he does.

I would say behind the smoke screen he is doing a lot more than just speaking, considering the clone is virtually useless - probably couldn't even flip burgers properly when she did her 5 minutes working in fast food.
