China tells airlines to suspend Boeing jet deliveries

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

China has told its airlines to stop taking deliveries of jets from American aviation giant Boeing, a report said Tuesday, as a trade war between Beijing and the United States deepens.

Since President Donald Trump took office in January, the world's two biggest economies have been locked in a tit-for-tat tariff war, with the US now charging levies of up to 145 percent on imports from China.

Beijing has reacted furiously to what it calls unlawful "bullying" by Washington and has imposed retaliatory duties of 125 percent on US imports, dismissing further hikes as pointless.

Bloomberg News reported Tuesday that China had also ordered airlines to halt deliveries of Boeing planes, citing people familiar with the matter.

Beijing has also told its carriers to suspend purchases of aircraft-related equipment and parts from US companies, the financial news outlet reported the people as saying.

AFP has contacted Boeing and China's foreign ministry for comment.

Beijing's reciprocal tariffs on US imports would likely have triggered significant rises in the cost of bringing in aircraft and components.

Bloomberg said the Chinese government is mulling helping carriers that lease Boeing jets and face higher costs.

Trump's fusillade of tariffs has roiled world markets and upended diplomacy with allies and adversaries alike.

The mercurial US leader announced an abrupt freeze on further hikes last week but gave Beijing no immediate reprieve.

US officials on Friday announced exemptions from the latest duties against China and others for a range of high-end tech goods such as smartphones, semiconductors and computers.

Oh dear. I hope the Chinese peasants won’t starve nt that the price of soybeans from the US has become so expensive…

Given Boeings high standards for aircraft (haha) they can always pawn their planes to another country. This will not hurt the company any more than their planes crashing from substandard building and maintenance.

This Article is completely biased. They leave out pertinent information related to the topic like... Those countries he suspended the tariffs agreed to come negotiate a viable trade deal with Trump and the US. Beijing just wants a fight and now they have it with Trump. Neither wants to fold.

Maybe China's next step will be to stop all trade. They will of course suffer more repercussions than the US.

Let the trade (wars) begin. We all knew it was coming in the next few years anyway.

Do you realize that most Chinese people earn less than 1000 USD per month to live on? That is the average salary for a full time job. Some make even less. Any price increases will surely hurt them quite a lot. Especially to the average person struggling to pay their bills and save a little money.

When I worked there, I was making more than 3 times the salary than the other local teachers.

thesetat, I think what you mention has been covered by this statement.

Oh, no!

China is the largest market in aviation due to an increase in domestic air passenger traffic, which has surpassed the North American region and is expected to grow rapidly at a rate of 4.4% by 2040, according to Boeing.

Nothing says winning like getting shut out of the world's largest market for your DEI products.

But what will China do?  How will the world's factory deal with this setback?

On 29 September 2022 the C919 received its CAAC type certificate. The first production airframe was delivered to China Eastern Airlines on 9 December 2022 and was put into commercial passenger service on 28 May 2023 (wiki)

Could be a big excuse as the Chinese airlines have not shown a profit for several years.  New planes are likely unaffordable.

Yes, but put that into PPP terms.

Their living expenses are bigly smaller.

And why are their prices going to go up?  There's little to nothing the US produces they can't make themselves or source elsewhere.  They have access to raw materials outside of US control, they have unlimited low-cast energy thanks to us sanctions, and they have the factories and trained personnel to produce anything they need.

This move hits Boeing hard, given China’s projected 20% share of global aircraft demand over the next two decades.

Maybe Bukele can buy some Boeing with his bitcoin

Naah, Trump will buy up a fleet of Boeing jets and donate them to Bukele just so he can start wrongly deporting more Americans into his little penal colony experiment. Then, in true art-of-the-deal fashion, he’ll call up his pal Putin to scoop up the leftover Boeing inventory that China doesn’t want anymore. Oh wait... because yeah, that’s exactly the kind of thing those pesky sanctions on Russia don’t cover, right?

No strategic or tactical preparation for a tariff war with China whatsoever. No stockpiling of crucial materials, ingredients, or components. No preparation lining up alternative sources. Nothing. Just a big yutz in the White House shooting his mouth off and changing the details by the day and the hour.

China climbing steadily up the mountain.

Usofa slipping ever faster down the mudslide.

Even Oz is scratching its collective head.

Not all bad. Less planes = less pollution. Commercial travel is one of the worst individual choices we can make.

Myself included.

Also me...calling out Pierre Poilivre on this very forum leading up to the Canadian election

Where will the Chinese buy their airplanes from?

Airbus is facing significant challenges in meeting the strong global demand for aircraft. The company has a backlog of 8,000 airplane orders and aims to deliver 720 planes in 2024, but supply chain issues, particularly with engines, have hampered production and delivery timelines

That's true. Airbus is a victim of their own success.

Long term it's the best thing that could happen to North America. Asia is the future and the west should be quite worried.

They could always buy used planes and refurbish them themselves. They also know how to build airplanes. China manufactures both commercial and military airplanes.

Military aircraft: China is a major producer of military planes. Companies like AVIC (Aviation Industry Corporation of China) develop and produce fighter jets, bombers, transport aircraft, and drones. Notable examples include the Chengdu J-20 stealth fighter and the Xian H-6 bomber.

Commercial aircraft: China is also investing heavily in commercial aviation. The state-owned company COMAC (Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China) developed the C919, a narrow-body airliner designed to compete with the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320. COMAC also produces regional jets like the ARJ21.

With the latest orders and deliveries numbers, Boeing’s backlog of orders now stands at 5,626 jets, up from 5,324 a year ago.
