In March, I arrived with a marriage-based 90-day NON-O. I am getting ready to apply for my first EOS. Is it possible to switch to a retirement-based EOS on the first application? How about on the subsequent EOS applications? Are there any rules and/or requirement when switching between retirement-based and marriage-based (in addition to the basic requirements)?

I will be applying at the Sri Saket office, in case it matters.

Thanks.

i think it should be no problem changing.. but I was told by my immigration office if switching from marriage to retirement extension, for the first extension your wife will have to be with you just to confirm you are still together.... there may be a few other visa gurus on here that can give you more info..

Immigration will make you apply for first extension based on marriage.

Subsequent extensions can be changed to based on retirement.

Note: when you switch from extension based on marriage to based on retirement your wife will need to attend immigration.

You are aware that the financial requirements for retirement extensions more onerous than for marriage.

if you do go for the married 1st year to retirement 2nd year, the new extension will start from date of application, not date of expiry of old extension

I just realized that I won't have 400k in the Thai bank for 60 days by the time my 90-day Non-O expires. Is there a way to extend the 90-day Non-O for 30 days or 60 days, so that the 400k has time to age, or do I have to leave Thailand and restart with another 90-day Non-O?

You could apply for 60 day extension to visit Thai wife.

Requirements etc covered in this thread with links to others.

Yes, you can get a 60-day extension to "visit your wife" from immigration.  No financials are required for this extension.  There is no 30-day option (only for tourist-type entries).

I just want to make sure I have all the details right; EOS based on marriage requires 400k in the Thai bank seasoned for two months, right?

I don't believe it requires proof that money were sourced from abroad does it? What are all the cases requiring proof of money sourced from overseas?

First up for extensions based on marriage or retirement using money in bank method the funds not required to have come from abroad.

For applying for a Non O retirement in Thailand from visa exempt or tourist visa entry the funds to be shown to have come from abroad.

This does not concern you as

1. You obtained your Non O outside of Thailand.

As for extensions retirement using income method then yes funds need to be shown from abroad.

First of all, @DrJack54 - many thanks for all your helpful and informative posts, in this thread and many others!!!

How about for EOS based on marriage using income method - do the funds need to be show from abroad? Or does that only apply to the EOS based on retirement?

This is from Pattaya expats ....

"Evidence of having an average of 40,000 baht in monthly income – relevant Thai income tax documents

or, if from outside of Thailand, an original Embassy Certification Letter attesting to the equivalent of at least 40,000 baht in monthly income."

Here is good general advice:
