One Year Extension / new passport timing

Getting a new one year extension soon which will take me to June 2026. My passport expires April 2027, so as far as i am aware if i do my extension in May/ June 2026 as normal, i will only get an extension until April 2027 (when my passport expires), correct?.

 

At what point is best to apply for my new passport so i get the full 12 months?

You are correct.  Get a new passport before May next year if you want a full year extension.

Thanks, would i then need to go to immigration to get stamps transferred beforehand, or could i take the new passport with me when i apply for the year extension in June 2026?

You can do it at one time when you go for the extension.

And the visa in the expired passport remains valid even tho' the passport will have been clipped/cut?

Your visa expired a long time ago, but your permission of stay (a permit) remains valid.

Renewing a Passport is more expensive compared to the cost of an extension.

When to renew a passport is an individual choice - too soon, and you've wasted part of its validity.

 

In your situation, which I was some years ago, I opted to renew my extension for just 10 months, then renew the passport.
More cost-effective to lose 2 months permission of stay, than 10 months validity of a passport.

Each to their own.

As soon as you obtain upcoming extension apply for passport renewal.

Ceases to amaze me why folk try and milk out pp.

I suggest if less than 12 months validity renew

Thanks, yes after some advice i was considering getting the next extension, then in November applying for new passport which may take 2 months, which means i would receive it 4 months before applying for my next extension.

 

Lat time i renewed im pretty sure they carried over the remaining months and added them onto my new passport, has that procedure stopped? (uk passport)

Yes, that is no longer the case for UK passports.

You'll have wasted 10 months of a 10-year passport.

 

Renew every 9 years unless you can move your extension renewal date.

It won't carry over.

With respect you are still doing same thing...trying to gain extra few months.

Nightmare thread currently running of UK pp renewal via VSF in Bangkok.

I renewed my Oz pp year back and it still had almost 2 years validity. 

PP has 10 year validity.

Penny wise pound foolish comes to mind.

Keep in mind that while no issue entering Thailand with the 6 month validity rule....other countries do have that requirement.

Not trying to gain extra months. simply asked the question if the procedure of carrying over months was still used as it was 10 years ago.

Actually, as your a mod, whilst ive got your attention, maybe you could answer my final question.

 

If i go to immigration with my 'old' clipped passport with valid extension of stay inside to do my 90 day report, will they question it?

If you attend immigration for any reason it's most likely they will require you to transfer stamps.

However (Thailand) it's not uncommon for someone to attend immigration for transfer and be told " your extension is due soon, do it then"
