Popular Post Georgealbert Posted May 11 Popular Post Posted May 11 Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A Ukrainian national was arrested at Phuket International Airport on the 10 May, accused of causing extensive damage to a rented condominium in the Mueang district, Phuket. The estimated cost of the damage is 350,000 baht. The woman, identified only as Miss Anastasia, was detained by immigration officers as she attempted to leave Thailand. Police had previously issued two summonses for her to appear for questioning following a complaint filed by the property manager, Ms Warinrat, 39, on 29 April. When the suspect failed to respond, officers from Wichit Police Station secured a court-approved arrest warrant. During initial questioning, the woman admitted to vandalising the apartment, claiming she was angry about not receiving her security deposit. However, the property owner, Miss Praphaphan, explained that the woman was not listed on the rental agreement, which was signed by a Russian national. This discrepancy, along with other contractual stipulations, prevented the immediate return of the 32,000 baht deposit. The condominium, located in Wichit sub-district, was found in a state of disrepair. Images shared on Facebook by the owner showed walls and ceilings covered in blue and green graffiti, including crude drawings, obscenities, and the word “SWINDLE” scrawled above the bed. Household furnishings, including the bed, curtains, and pillows, had been slashed open, with cotton stuffing strewn across the room. Electrical appliances were also reportedly destroyed. Miss Anastasia had resided in the flat from 15 April 2024 to 15 April 2025. After initially refusing to vacate the property at the end of the tenancy, she later agreed to leave by 29 April. She informed the manager that she had left the room early and had placed the keys in a rubbish bin. Accompanied by friends and security personnel, Ms Warinrat entered the property with a locksmith and was shocked by the scale of the destruction. The property owner emphasised that she had been following proper procedures, as stipulated in the lease agreement. These included a 14-day window to process the deposit return, deductions for unpaid utility bills, and the requirement that refunds be made only to the person listed on the contract. Miss Anastasia has been charged with property damage and remains in police custody as legal proceedings commence. The room owner posted online following the arrest: “Whatever karma you create, you must face the consequences, young lady.” Related article: https://aseannow.com/topic/1359349-deposit-dispute-turns-ugly-ukrainian-renter-wrecks-thai-condo-then-vanishes/ Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-05-11. 4 1 2 1

Popular Post smedly Posted May 11 Popular Post Posted May 11 even though she had a legal basis for not returning the deposit it might have been a sensible thing to do, we all know that getting deposits returned from Thai owners can be a problem, they often treat it like key money and getting it back is not straight forward 3 4 4 3

So Anastasia took over the rent from a Russian, most probably without a new contract. Then asks for the deposit (witch the Russian paid) back. Somehow I would be very reluctant to pay her a deposit back that she paid (or not) to somebody else. Than gets temper tantrum, like a good Gen Z Girl, probably combined with PMS. Now she has time to cool down and learn a valuable lesson. 1 2 6

Do you suppose the Russian cleared off without getting their 32,000 back from somebody? If the Thai owner was not still holding 32,000 why would she be going through the motions of processing its return.....as she stated she was: "The property owner emphasised that she had been following proper procedures, as stipulated in the lease agreement. Far be it from me to suggest that the Thai owner may have been using this technicality: "the requirement that refunds be made only to the person listed on the contract." not to pay the out of pocket Miss Anastasia.

ChipButty Posted May 12 Posted May 12 The owner must have the Russians details? has he gone from Thailand? surely they will check to see if he is still here, Who's going to pay for the damages? The one month or even two month security deposit does not cover the damages, sending her to jail wont pay for that,

That is speculation. She smashed the place up, tried to exhort money that was not owed to her and then did a runner not just fleeing the scene of the crime but trying to leave the country! Where she was caught at departure gates at the airport. She sounds a right badun to me. 1 1

NativeBob Posted May 12 Posted May 12 Since article about durian export issue to China and yellow dye BY-2 I take anything from USAID financed Khaosod with a certain disbelief. Even such a small issue with that UA female and haughty landlord's agent - turn into complete mess.
hunkidori Posted May 12 Posted May 12 Thai landlords and agents are notorious for stealing tenants deposits and especially when they know there is a plane to catch. And 350,000 Baht of damage? Another blatant exaggeration. 1 3 1

jimmybcool Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Seems the Russian is somewhat liable for the damages as well. He was responsible for the apartment while under his lease and he allowed this psycho to reside in it with him gone. Landlord should get legal attachment against both of them if either ever returns,
newbee2022 Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Back home please. They need him there for fighting the Russians.👍
wensiensheng Posted May 13 Posted May 13 How can she be a tourist? She lived there for a year. Heck of a holiday.

Well, if the owner paid the money back to Miss A, what would happen if the Russian named in the contract turned up a day later and asked for his deposit back? It would be due to him, no?

Franky0815 Posted May 13 Posted May 13 The landlord is having trouble paying out the security deposit because the Ukrainian woman isn't listed on the rental agreement. However, she has no problem with the Ukrainian woman living there for a year. (If I hadn't already been robbed of my security deposit in Thailand, I would be appalled by the Ukrainian woman's behavior. Not so...)
