A new retirement visa for one year. The old one expires in July.

You would need to apply for a 12 month extension.

Has financial requirements.

My question is specifically about minimal validity of the passport. The embassy is ready to give me a passport for one year exactly but as I heard there may need a month or two more before they can process my visa application.

There is no minimum requirement but you are best to have at least 6 months to avoid the risk of hassle when entering Thailand (or maybe even with issue of the visa).

Thereafter the visa remains valid for 12 months and if you get a new passport you simply carry both with you.

Nor is post above ^

If I understood you right, if this is my second retirement visa application (in a row) - it is considered as an extension and I don't need to go through 2 months waiting period again before the visa is issued?

None of what you are posting makes sense.

Post exactly what visa you originally obtained and it's initial permission of stay.

Doubt you had a Non O-A.

Nothing clear

I got a retirement visa about 1 year ago for 1 year . I think it is NON-O-A. Now I interested in the procedure of extending this visa for one more year. I am especially interested in the passport validity minimum.

Sounds like you're taking about and extension. If a new one is issued in July it will be limited to the expiry date of your current passport.  And no, you don't have to wait 2 months for it but you must have maintained the correct amount in your bank account since the first extension.

Where did you get it?

If indeed you have a Non O-A and was obtained a year ago then a simple exit and reenter Thailand would grant you another 12 months or till expiry of pp

It would require insurance.

Again... It's just guess work trying to advise you.

You would know if it was Nin O-A as you would obtain it in pp country and go through all the hoops.,.. Medical, police clearance etc

Well you didn't get a non-OA. And if you haven't maintained the funds in your bank since last year you'll have to use them again for the renewal. And the renewal will be until the expiry date of your passport.

This is like extracting teeth.

Seems you obtained a Non O + extension via agent (Maneerat) Pattaya.

They can obtain you another extension however it will be valid only to expiry of pp.

You should have obtained a new pp in previous 12 months.

Agents can obtain extension months prior to expiry. You can go anytime from now

Extension, visa's cannot be changed into a retirement one.

Someone has replied with the best answer already. You should get a new passport. If there are only (6) months left, for example, you'll be given (6) months only. Then you'll have to waste your time at Immigration all over again in (5) months or so.

Just got from MANEERAT now. Was quite surprised. They told me that if I get a 1 year extension of my passport for one year (which is manually added to the existing passport) - this passport may be not eligible for the Retirement visa prolongation (extension, renewal - call it whatever you want). She told me that the extended passport is actually not a normal passport (even if it looks exactly like one).

Any thoughts?

I think they may be right.  Can you not get an actual new passport? (when does the current one expire?)

I will definitely ask for a new 1 year passport (they refuse to give me one for a longer period) from my embassy. There are only 3-4 free pages left in the old one anyway.

Sounds like you'll be going home soon whatever happens if that's the only way to get a new passport.  And it expires when, actually?

Crystal clear. Just read slowly maybe... What is the minimum passport validity required to apply for a retirement visa?

You cannot get an extension longer than the validity of your passport. If your passport is valid for less than 12 month, you exten sion of stay will be the same. Your original visa is not extended, it's your permission to stay that is extended, based on retirement.

Clearly you did not read the thread.

Others also were confused.

The OP, kept referring to Visa.

At one point stated he thinks he has a Non O-A.

Eventually states that an agent handles his extension.

At that point it's obvious he is extending a permission of stay from a Non O

Still has not posted when his passport expires.

His current permission of stay expires July.

Didnt notice if he stated pp country.

You state......"Just read slowly maybe"

How about you make posts to assist the OP.

One day. But you’ll never get a new passport renewed in time.. give yourself about three or four months because the only way that Thailand does a passport renewal is if you mail it into them it is the only way they will take it in. You cannot call them. You cannot make an appointment other than online for other things, but not for a passport. You have to mail it in so don’t wait too long.

Which country would that be?
