webfact Posted Thursday at 08:34 PM Posted Thursday at 08:34 PM Picture courtesy of Daily News Two prison guards at Klong Prem Central Prison have been injured after an inmate snatched a baton and attacked them. The incident involved a prisoner with a history of repeat offences, resulting in a court order for continued detention. Police revealed that the individual has been mentally unstable due to medication issues, but fortunately, the injured guards are now safe. Police Colonel Sanya Ubonwiratana of Prachachuen Police Station stated that on 28 May, a report was filed by prison staff following the attack. The incident occurred while two guards were delivering food to the inmate. The prisoner managed to seize a baton from one of the guards and assaulted them, causing injuries that required treatment at Pranangklao Hospital in Nonthaburi. The inmate, originally transferred from Klong Pai Prison, was nearing the end of a sentence but faced extended detention due to repeated misconduct while incarcerated. The inmate's mental instability is attributed to a lapse in ongoing medication, leading to erratic behaviour. The police colonel confirmed that the two injured guards have been discharged and are recovering at home. Investigators are coordinating to gather testimonies and medical reports as part of the evidence collection process, with charges against the inmate to follow.
