So my friend changed a VE entry to 3 months retirement visa at CW. He has everything in order, including funds in the bank for much longer than 3 months as he was employed here on an off for years in the past, and he did it on his own, no agents.

When is the EARLIEST he can apply for a 1 year extension? He plans to go to his home country for a few months and doesn't want to be limited by the time needed to get the extension.

TIA.

In bangkok, you can apply for an extension when you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp.

He needs almost the exact same documentation that he used when he applied for the in-country Non-O 90 day visa.

He goes to section L-1 at Chaengwattana immigrations and applies for the extension for 1900 baht. once he gets it issued he would then go to section C-1 to apply for a reentry permit.

Thank you for the quick answer. A follow up question (or 2...) - what's the latest he can apply for the extension?

And what about the OX visa? Is it still available for Austrian passport holders? If not available for Austrian - what nationalities can apply for it??

Thank you again

Application for extension can be made up till date of expiry of current permission of stay.

Obviously people avoid leaving it till expiry date.

Check with your eVisa portal.

You did mean Non O-X?

Not a common option

Yes, my friend just heard something about the non o-x. Saying it's a 5 or 10 years multiple entry visa?

Non O-X is not popular for good reason.

In any event he now has a Non O retirement so he can do annual extensions from that or if financials become an issue then use agent.

Other long term options such as LTR have strict requirements.
