In a shocking incident at Pra Nang Klao Hospital in Nonthaburi, a nurse was viciously attacked by a 21-year-old male patient, causing widespread concern about safety in healthcare facilities. The assault took place on June 11, around 2pm, as the nurse was assisting the patient in the surgical trauma ward.

 

The patient, who had been transferred from Bang Bua Thong Hospital after a motorcycle accident, became violent while waiting for treatment. As the nurse spoke to the patient’s relative over the phone, he launched an unexpected attack, striking her in the face.

 

This unprovoked assault led to serious facial injuries and bleeding, requiring immediate intervention by other staff and the patient's family to restrain him. Authorities were swiftly called to handle the situation.

 

According to witnesses, the patient was recently transferred from the Intensive Care Unit and was initially calm but soon became agitated, verbally abusive, and resistant to care.

 

The hospital has highlighted its zero-tolerance policy for violence, stating healthcare spaces are for healing, not hostility. Despite having security measures like guards and CCTV, the hospital appeals for cooperation from patient families to manage such incidents.

 

Police have formally charged the patient with assaulting a medical professional, resulting in grave injury. He remains in custody as legal proceedings unfold.

 

In light of this distressing event, Pra Nang Klao Hospital released a statement on Thursday, expressing grave concern and reaffirming their dedication to protecting staff and patients while condemning violence against healthcare workers.

How on earth do you begin to even guess what the guy is going through? They just hauled him out of ICU, did you ever think that not every doctor here is Kildare or Finlay, and he just might have a problem on the brain? He was after all in a motorbike accident.

 

However, if this is one of the many idiots that get hammered on the grog and then get so drunk they take on the world, then I have no sympathy. Just seems like people might be jumping the gun a bit here.

Unless, of course, it's themselves or one of their loved ones getting banged up and sent off to prison for years.  Then they care about mitigating circumstances like brain injuries or drug side effects.

At a hospital clinic I attended in Guildford in the UK there was a sign saying that there were persistent attacks on staff by patients and that such attacks are to be immediately reported to the police. Whatever the reasons I repeat I personally find it impossible to sympathise in any way  with attacks on nursing staff.

Almost 300,000 in prisons here, so at least some are being jailed. If it was some who committed offenses who get away with a Wai, compensation or bribes, the number would probably be a million. Assault like this means jail or an institution, seeing he might have a mental illness attacking an innocent nurse.
