Yes, and nothing has changed for centuries.  It's what humans do, just now, it's very methodical and very profitable.

Only difference now, the ignorant masses actually support the inhumanity.

Absolutely not. I remember when the wall came down. Russia was about to be integrated into the global system as a friend.

International humanitarian law still meant something.

Governments going on killing commando expeditions were unheard of.

Israel while  thoroughly reprehensible was not the rabid child kiling dog it is now.

It's all become a lot worse.

My Father was an RAF pilot and I was raised on US air bases in Germany , then on an RAF cold War V-bomber base in the UK.  Life seemed so simple .... USAF pilots and their highly polished bombers represented freedom, democracy and wholesome goodness to my young mind, my Dad and the other chaps in the RAF were their faithful allies, and while school nuclear raid drills crouching under a sturdy wooden desk reminded us of the threat, we knew we were heading into a better, peaceful time of victory over the Soviets, flying cars and robot gardeners.

Everything was getting better and nobody gave a thought for polar ice caps or the risk to sea turtles from plastic straws.

Yes there was that business in Vietnam, and during the Cuba crisis we had to jump into a car and join a traffic jam heading back to UK, and Ireland was a bit of a mesd, but in general it all felt optimistic.

I really thought we'd have developed passed wars by the 21st Century.

But it's just as violent and chaotic now, and we don't trust the US, the RAF can't afford to fly planes and Russia is still the enemy plus we've returned to 12th Century religious wars and I still don't have a flying car.

The 21st century has been such a disappointment.
