My mention of Travel Agency was in reply to the OPs question. Of course you should use multipe travel sites to find times and fares, but in my experience, it seems cheaper, and safer, to go directly to the airline once you have found what you want. Let's face it, all sites SHOULD give the same schedules, and seats available.

If you do get into any difficulties, the Travel Sites do not have anyone at the airport to help, the Airlines do!

Exactly. Use ita matrix (software from the same company that most airlines use) to find flight options, and after finding one that fits your time and budget, go book on that airline's website.

https://matrix.itasoftware.com/search

If you have the airline's app on your smartphone, it is even easier.

Right now, a 1-way to Europe is cheap as chips. However, a 1-way coming back is expensive as it's summer holiday time for Europe.

Better to book a return ticket and accept any additional charges they will apply if you opt to come back sooner (probably more expensive).

BTW, who uses travel agencies these days? Book online, either by any of the airfare aggregator websites or directly with the airline.

Good idea, thanks.

Definitely wrong for one-way from Bangkok to London.

Air India is cheaper if you fancy 😳

That has probably answered my question. I will try online to see if I can get a return flight with a return for a date after my business is finished, which could be one week or one month.

Thai Airways offer a range of fares for tickets that are changeable. Depending on the fare, the fee for change increases. Fully flexible has no fee for change - I have done this often, and all it takes is a call to the helpful Thai airways office in Bangkok (they closed their London office). Their saver fare charges 5,000 Baht for change. There may be an increase in fare by changing to a different date though this has never happened to me with Thai. Other airlines have different policies. I have always found Thai to be very helpful.
