Is this the correct place for such a posting?  It's an old article, so there might be a few more who entered that exclusive club.

The 9 new vaccine billionaires, in order of their net worth are: 

  1. Stéphane Bancel, Moderna’s CEO (worth $4.3 billion)
  2. Ugur Sahin, CEO and co-founder of BioNTech (worth $4 billion)
  3. Timothy Springer, an immunologist and founding investor of Moderna (worth $2.2bn)
  4. Noubar Afeyan, Moderna’s Chairman (worth $1.9 billion)
  5. Juan Lopez-Belmonte, Chairman of ROVI, a company with a deal to manufacture and package the Moderna vaccine (worth $1.8 billion)
  6. Robert Langer, a scientist and founding investor in Moderna (worth $1.6 billion)
  7. Zhu Tao, co-founder and chief scientific officer at CanSino Biologics (worth $1.3 billion)
  8. Qiu Dongxu, co-founder and senior vice president at CanSino Biologics (worth $1.2)
  9. Mao Huihua, also co-founder and senior vice president at CanSino Biologics (worth $1 billion) 

      Note that 5 of those new billionaires have Moderna ties. 

On top of the new billionaires, another 8 vaccine-billionaires saw their wealth in 1 year rise with several more billion $

Also that wealth-increase is based on the early april 2021 Forbes report.  

So that's only 4 months after the very first approved and publicly administered Covid-19 vaccine was provided.

Very old indeed.  After the speculative bubble in those stocks popped, those stocks fell more than 90%.  So definitely none of those people are billionaires anymore.....

The 5 Moderna guys that became billionaires overnight, are not billionaires anymore as the Moderna stock has indeed lost more than 90% of its hot air balloon value from early 2021.  But they are still very very wealthy. 

Note that the BioNTech CEO and the 3 Chinese CanSino Biologics executives are still billionaires.

Source?  Or is that something you just made up as usual?  

 

CanSino Biologics stock has also fallen more than 90% and is actually lower than late 2019 before covid started......

I simply queried ChatGPT about the current 2025 status of those 9 new vaccine-billionaires 

Here the response of the program (with source reference in small print at the end of each paragraph). 

 

Here’s the status as of mid‑2025 for each of the nine “vaccine billionaires” you listed.  

Note that in my earlier querky that the program responded that all 3 Chinese CanSino Biologics executives were still billionaires as of now. 

But that in my renewed query - rendered below - that it now states that it could not confirm the financial status of Mao Huihua at present.

I did all right out of it also.

Not quite a billion though.

 

Those who came up with the vaccines made billions but helped the economy get back on its feet quicker which made trillions.

There should be a pandemic every year.  Force everyone to get a shot, lock down, sell $5 masks or jail them, then make it $10, housing prices up again, create another 9 billionaires and just keep repeating.   Once this doesn't work, try a pandemic every other year.  

 

Soon there will be three people in America worth more than 70% of the population.
