In a brazen and calculated attack, a well-known businessman from Sangkhlaburi was shot dead in the car park of a major wholesale store in downtown Kanchanaburi. The incident occurred at approximately 19:25 on the evening of 25 June, shocking shoppers and local residents alike.

Police were alerted to the scene shortly after the shooting. Pol. Sub-Lt. Thammawat Sukkiwat, Deputy Investigation Officer of Mueang Kanchanaburi Police Station, responded alongside forensic officers, rescue foundation personnel and a duty physician from Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital.

Upon arrival, officers found the lifeless body of Mr. Sitthikorn Phiu-ondee 51, lying face-up next to his black Ford Ranger Raptor pickup truck, which had its driver-side door open. The victim had sustained 15 gunshot wounds from a .38 calibre revolver, with injuries to his face, torso and arms. No shell casings were recovered at the scene.

According to eyewitnesses, multiple gunshots were heard erupting from the car park before two assailants were seen fleeing in a grey pickup truck, which they drove away at high speed.

Mr. Sitthikorn’s wife, who was present at the time of the shooting, told investigators that they had come to the wholesale store to purchase chairs and décor for one of their businesses. After completing their shopping, store employees helped them load the items into their vehicle. As Mr. Sitthikorn approached the driver’s side to unlock the vehicle, two men reportedly called out his name. When he turned to face them, they opened fire at close range, before escaping.

The victim was a prominent figure in the region, known for owning a major construction supply store and a popular restaurant in Sangkhlaburi, as well as other business interests in the area, including entertainment venues.

Initial investigations by police point to personal or business-related conflicts as the most likely motive behind the killing. Mr. Sitthikorn was regarded as a high-profile individual in Sangkhlaburi with his multiple business dealings.

Detectives from both the Provincial Police Region and Mueang Kanchanaburi Police Station are now reviewing CCTV footage from the area and have launched a manhunt for the suspects. Authorities are also appealing to the public for any information that may assist in locating the getaway vehicle or identifying the perpetrators.

The investigation is ongoing.
