A shocking incident in Chanthaburi has left a 61-year-old man critically injured after being violently attacked by a father and son near a local market. The victim, Mr. Atchaya Sianglert, suffered multiple facial injuries and required emergency surgery. His daughter is calling for swift legal action against the assailants.

The incident took place on the evening of June 29 in front of a roadside market along the Phakdi Ramphai Canal in Moo 1, Ko Khwang sub-district, Mueang District. Witnesses reported that a man in his 30s was seen arguing aggressively with Mr. Atchaya while another man, believed to be the attacker’s father, restrained the elderly victim.

Despite attempts by Mr. Atchaya’s daughter, 41-year-old Anchalee Silan, to intervene, the younger man reportedly pushed her away and delivered a forceful punch to the older man’s face. Although bystanders attempted to separate the parties, tensions escalated again shortly after, resulting in the younger attacker striking Mr. Atchaya two more times. One of the blows caused Mr. Atchaya to collapse, his body slumping over a roadside guardrail, unconscious.

According to Ms. Anchalee, the altercation stemmed from a previous accusation that Mr. Atchaya had wrongfully claimed the assailants had taken his small fishing boat. She stated that earlier that day, her father had stopped by her market stall when that confrontation occurred. The suspect allegedly said, “Why are you looking at me like that?” before approaching and challenging the older man with, “What problem do you have with me?”

Later, as Mr. Atchaya was preparing to ride home, the suspect’s father reportedly intercepted him on a motorcycle, leading to a renewed argument and the eventual assault, captured on video by witnesses. The daughter has since filed a report at the local police station, calling for justice.

Medical personnel from emergency services transported Mr. Atchaya to hospital, where he underwent surgery after doctors found a fractured cheekbone, swelling to the jaw and face and a severely bruised and swollen right eye. As of July 1, he remains under close medical supervision and has yet to regain full alertness, due to the trauma and shock suffered.

Ms. Anchalee stated that the family has not been contacted by the assailants and is urging police to expedite the investigation and ensure legal accountability. She also appealed for compassion and responsibility, noting her father’s age and recent recovery from illness.
