A month-long search for a missing woman has come to an end after her body was discovered inside a submerged vehicle in a canal in Kanchanaburi Province.

At around 10:15 on 1 July, the Khun Rattanawut Foundation’s radio centre received a report from a member of the public who spotted a car submerged in the Sra Setthi irrigation canal, located in Moo 5, Ban Mai Subdistrict, Tha Muang District.

The vehicle, a grey 7-seater Mitsubishi Pajero with Bangkok licence plates, had been concealed underwater until recent drops in water levels made it visible. The foundation’s underwater rescue unit was immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon retrieval of the vehicle, rescue workers discovered a female body seated in the back seat, slumped against the rear cushion. Initial inspections suggested the body had been inside the vehicle for an extended period.

Relatives who had previously reported both the woman and the vehicle missing on 5 June were called to the scene. They confirmed that the deceased was Ms. Suphanuch, aged 47, a resident of Ko Samrong Subdistrict, Mueang District, Kanchanaburi.

Her body has since been transferred to Somdet Phra Sangharaja the 19th Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the incident. Police are continuing their investigation to determine whether foul play was involved or if the driver accidentally veered off the road and into the canal.
