Thai Cabinet Boosts Salary Caps for Thailand Post Executives

On July 1, the Thai Cabinet approved a long-awaited increase in the salary caps for senior employees at Thailand Post, marking the first adjustment in 18 years. This decision follows recommendations from the State Enterprise Labour Relations Committee (SELRC) and takes effect immediately.

 

Thailand Post operates under a 53-tier salary structure with 12 hierarchical levels. Previously, the top salary was capped at 113,520 baht, a figure unchanged since 2007. This outdated structure caused inconsistencies, particularly at the executive level, affecting roles such as chief business officers, deputy managing directors, and division managers.

 

Comparative analysis showed that Thailand Post’s executive salaries were uncompetitive, especially when compared to similar state enterprises and the private sector. This posed challenges in attracting and retaining top talent within the organisation.

 

The new salary caps are as follows:

 

  • Level 12 (Chief business officer): Increased from 113,520 baht to 142,830 baht
  • Level 11 (Deputy managing director): Increased from 108,810 baht to 133,770 baht
  • Level 10 (Division manager): Increased from 104,310 baht to 124,770 baht

 

Thailand Post confirmed that these increases will be funded entirely from its budget, ensuring no negative impact on financial health. Plans for revenue generation and cost-saving measures are underway to balance the rise in personnel costs.

 

While the salary adjustment benefits senior-level employees, no changes were announced for lower-tier staff, despite their recognised expertise and accuracy in deliveries. This decision highlights ongoing discussions about compensation equity within the organisation.
