A decomposing body of an unidentified man was discovered floating face down in a canal beside Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital on Ratchadamnoen Road on the morning of 13 July.

At approximately 11:30, officers from Mueang Nakhon Si Thammarat Police Station were alerted to the discovery of the corpse in Khu Phai Canal. Responding officers, along with doctors from the hospital and rescue volunteers from the Tai Tek Tung Foundation, promptly attended the scene.

The deceased, believed to be between 45 and 50 years old, was found wearing a black crew-neck T-shirt and black shorts. The body, which had begun to bloat, was recovered from the water for preliminary examination. No visible wounds or signs of assault were found, and investigators estimate that the man had been dead for at least 24 hours.

According to a local resident who made the discovery, he had been casting a fishing net in the canal when he noticed a human-like object floating past. On closer inspection, he realised it was a body and immediately notified the police.

No identification documents were found on the deceased. However, residents in the area reported that the man bore a resemblance to a local vagrant frequently seen sitting at a nearby bus stop, just a short distance from where the body was found.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of death. The body has been sent to Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital for a full autopsy to establish the cause and time of death, as well as to identify the individual. Police are continuing their investigation and attempting to locate the man’s family to proceed with legal formalities.
