What Would Make You Leave Thailand, Permanently?

I lived in Surin and Bangkok for a total of 12 years and watched the country change in so many ways and not for the better in many ways. Went to Phnom Penh for a week, back to Bangkok for 2 weeks to pack up and relocated to Cambodia.
Best move I’ve made, for me it’s just much better and I haven’t seen any murders, assaults, stabbings or bag and phone snatches like the BS internet stories promote. It’s a fantastic country. Thailand for expats is quickly becoming paradise lost.

If permanent means live some means live some else full time, I already have left. Great for tourists, less so for single retirees

I moved to live in Thailand at a relatively young age. Dabbling in financial markets, I experienced roller-coaster rides... If I ever gambled my life-savings away, that would obviously be a major reason. Others are sickness, or old age... (I don't intent to get old in Thailand, but I may still visit from time to time.)

 

Also, after many years, Thailand is not longer an 'exotic' country to me, so, yes, with many alternatives, I may go and discover new places when being retired.

But with that figure one can live anywhere. A cheesy old 2 br bungalow costs me 1100$ here.

I live on the pension in OZ. I pay only 480 AUD per fortnight for a 2-bedroom unit. I lived in Thailand for many years, but moved back some years ago, and had nothing to move back to, but having a ball now.

You would have to move to a smaller town, someplace rural, or someplace like Little Rock, or Detroit to find a decent place for $1500 anymore. And the other costs of living are now astronomical. The US is not an option. It represents a very low quality of life, for all who don't own a nice home which is fully paid for.

Not completely, we will live both places, but prioritizing Norway for awhile because of family reasons and also establish a second base.

Wait till he comes disabled and has nobody to help him. I have been married twice for 30 years, to a Western lady and 20 years to a Thai lady, and I could not do without help now.

I'm still young, or at least younger than most here, and it is not what I'm thinking about now primary. 

 

Having someone who contribute positive to your life, is a blessing, and also have someone to plan the future with, done you care for, is something great. Especially if you feel it is returned
