A 70-year-old woman has been arrested in Sa Kaeo Province after being caught selling methamphetamine pills, commonly known as yaba, from a basket to local youths. The woman, identified only as Mrs. Buala, was apprehended following complaints from residents who said they could no longer tolerate the constant flow of teenagers visiting her home day and night.

The arrest was carried out by a special operations unit from the Sa Kaeo Provincial Administrative Office under the direction of Provincial Governor Mr. Prinya Phothisat and Chief District Officer Mr. Suthep Chaiwat. Mr. Prasert Singthong, the provincial security officer and Mr. Burin Luangkhet, assistant officer, led the raid with volunteers from the Territorial Defence Volunteer Unit 1 and narcotics suppression task force members.

Authorities had been monitoring the area since 14 July after receiving reports through the provincial drug suppression command centre. Their investigation confirmed suspicious activity at Mrs. Buala’s residence in Mueang Sa Kaeo district.

During the operation, officers found Mrs. Buala in possession of 12 methamphetamine tablets. She later confessed to both consuming and selling the drugs. She told police she would place the pills in a basket and sit outside selling them to local teenagers daily.

According to investigators, her home had become a hotspot for drug activity, with teenagers coming and going at all hours, prompting alarm among neighbours. The local community eventually submitted formal complaints, prompting the authorities to take action.

Mrs. Buala was taken in for questioning, where she provided information that may lead to further arrests. After the official arrest report was completed, she was handed over to investigators at Sa Kaeo Provincial Police Station for prosecution under drug laws.

Officials have reiterated their commitment to addressing drug problems at every level and have urged citizens to continue reporting suspicious activities in their communities.
