Sorry, I think I let you off the hook too easy.

I'd like to make the argument that many/most of Ozzy's songs are exactly that - drivel for the brain dead.

What's the obsession with insanity in his music? The most famous song being "Crazy Train".

His album "Patient Number 9" seems to be about a guy in a psychiatric ward. Is that what kids find cool these days?

Now, let's take a closer look at some of the lyrics here from "Evil Shuffle" off that album.

Mad man living inside me
He won't let me go

And the voices call from below, yeah

I crawl in the shadows
I prey on the weak
When I do the evil shuffle, yeah

There's a mad man living inside him, voices in his head. And these voices make him prey on the weak.

Why in the world would anyone listen to this? What's the point of this?

You're not afraid that this song might inspire someone to murder your sister? Maybe you should be.

If lyrics are twisted, there's something seriously wrong with the music you're listening to.

People just don't get it and listen to anything that sounds cool.

It's excusable when you're a teenager, but if you're an adult and you don't get that you need to stop listening to music with twisted lyrics, you have arrested development.

To help you understand the mindset of folks like Cheney/Bush.   Not everything is self reflection, though have to admit, if I opened up to a shrink, I might be committed.   Not that there's anything wrong with me, IMHO, I'm just not 'mainstream' mentality 😎

And something else. Metal singers are yelling, they're not even singing.

Good. So Ozzy saved you.

Helped you channel your inner angst in safe ways.

Nah ... EC saved me 'Presence of the Lord', and Beck/Stewart, 'People Get Ready' (Curtis Mayfield)

And Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Randy Newman, Harry Nielson, Dave Bromberg (Like to Sleep Late in the Morning), Grand Funk RR, Temps (Ball of Confusion), Otis Reading, Bill Wither & Grover and host of others, let me know, I'm not alone in my thoughts.

Just gave crap like BJ Thomas (Raindrops on my F'g Head) a pass.

Ozzy still cranking 'em out in 1991.   Need to listen to his  album 'No More Tears'.  Think that's the last CD of his I bought.

Never got into heavy metal.

Music seems creepy to me.

One guy in high school who was a metalhead seemed completely crazy to me. He looked like he had serious mental health issues.

And once again, I believe people go to these concerts to get stoned and bang their heads and numb the pain of their lives and barely even listen to the lyrics of these songs.

Here, he is making a statement about teens masturbating in their rooms and how society is getting degraded because people are not having normal relationships?

It's uplifting this music!

Twisted little fantasy
Gambling with tragedy and doom, and doom
Addicted to debauchery
Staring at the ceiling in his room, in his room
Asphyxiation
Masturbation
Degradation rules

That's but one of his songs. A lot are about despising the system. Many think he was a devil worshiper, but he wasn't. One song by Geezer Butler, War Pigs , has this description............“I wanted to write a song called War Piggers, the satanic version of Christmas. Write it about that satan isn’t a spiritual thing, it’s warmongers – that’s who the real satanists are. All these people who are running the banks in the world, trying to get the working class to fight the wars for them. I sent it off to the record company but they said, “No, you’re not going to call it that, it’s too satanic,” so I changed it to War Pigs.”Terry 'Geezer' Butler (1150).......................Paranoid about this.............“This is about a guy who has a hang up with chicks. It’s got a heavy riff. We’re not a single group and after the first single, which we didn’t like, we just wrote this in the studio and now its starting to sell.”Ozzy Osbourne (1151), and God Is Dead.............“I was in a doctor’s waiting room and I saw a magazine which said, “God is Dead” and I thought, “<deleted> hell, yeah, they flew planes into the World Trade Center and they’re always blowing themselves up in market places, killing innocent people in the name of their god.” But, if you listen to the twist at the end of the song, it says, “I don’t believe that God is dead.” Geezer said he wrote them about someone who is in search for the fact if God is still there or he’s not, you know?”Ozzy Osbourne (1326)

Music is a way of release, of stress and daily tensions. It doesn't drive sane people to do crazy things but a safe release. Most everyone wants to see someone hurting or killed, but most don't act on it. This is why millions watch horror or action movies.

Most men, and some women, loved seeing Rambo doing a number on the Myanmar army, as they're, even today, committing genocide on their own people, and people like that have no place in society.

Video games are the same. You take out your frustrations on the opponent. Normal people aren't committing violent crimes, unless it's in self defense. Ozzy and his band were,(are) just like us, expressing how they feel about how screwed up the world is. In a safe way.

Ozzy's Black Sabbath music was great, but so was Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio, and even Tony Franklin and Ian Gillan.,

How wrong and ignorant you were and are.

I was a normal teen in high school. I've never taken drugs in my life and didn't even drink alcohol, but enjoyed Black Sabbath and had a number of their albums.

One of the major features of these Black Sabbath albums was how enlightened the lyrics were... almost prophetic. The lyrics were incredible.

Not my usual taste in music, but always regarded the man as a legend, some people just have a magnetic personality. He was clearly backed by a brilliant media team who expertly showcased his finest qualities, he became a figure larger than life.

I've seen a lot of his recent concert in Brum...  Particularly Yungbluds 'cover' of Changes - which I think is an excellent homage to the frontman (bottom most video below)

When a star like this transcends generations and genres, it speaks volumes about the man himself. I believe most people; especially in Britain and the USA, held Ozzy in genuine affection. His enduring appeal across such diverse audiences says everything about his impact.

His wild excesses were mostly youthful missteps and wildness (in the extreme), his madness somehow endearing rather than destructive. There’s a hilarious (and disgusting)  scene in The Dirt - the Motley Crue biopic, where they depict Ozzy in his earlier years. If anything close to the truth, he was utterly off the rails, no surprise.

What fascinates me is how someone so recklessly chaotic could also be so deeply adored. Perhaps time has softened the memory of his most extreme antics, but his status as a public icon remains untarnished.

He will be remembered as one of the wildest, greatest, and most revered frontmen and madmen in rock history.

Rest in peace - Ozzy.

I'm not going to let you off the hook that easily.

1 - One band member admits to being into black magic.

2 - And he believes there was a "5th mystical member" in the band.

But here's another question for you.

And I'm glad I'm talking to you here because you said you were a Bible guy.

Why do people listen to songs with references to Satan in them?

But when you point out Satan from the Bible, everyone thinks it's silly.

But when Ozzy talks about Satan in his songs, it's not silly? Or what is it?

And how can this possibly help anyone in their lives to be listening to songs about Satan?

Lyrics to song Black Sabbath:

Is it the end, my friend?
Satan's comin' 'round the bend
People runnin' 'cause they're scared
The people better go and beware
No, no, please, no

Never heard one of his songs so not bothered, 76 not a bad age, did he top himself?

It is rockn roll and rockn roll is the devils music coming from blues.

Ai it is just myths to much drugs, show, and they just mostly acted like idiots, both their lyrics mirrors what they felt, thoughts and also rebelled against the set society. I listened to Kiss, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, ACDC, Led Zeppelin, Nazareth, Rainbow at that time, but at 12 I became Pink Floyd fan, and started to explore a bit more. Was a bit in to Metallica and Soad for awhile also.

Rock Roll was a show, and still is

Good and evil exist in all corners of the globe. Bad and good is in everyone. Leaning towards that good is what separates us from those that think little of orgers to those who intentionally hurt others. Satan is a part of all of our lives. Some say he can tempt people but it's still their choices. he has no power over us. We can do whatever we like and using him as an excuse is false.

Ozzy was just like many other singer-songwriters, including country, blues and jazz. They all write about evil and good. His genre was metal, and many don't like metal anyway, so when they hear his music all they hear is Satan and destruction, without really listening to the lyrics. That some thought he worshiped the devil was put in one of his songs, Rock and Roll rebel, "They say I worship the devil, they must be stupid or blind".

He poked fun at all types of topics, again, just like many other artists, but when someone like Charlie Daniels, Colters and The Rolling Stones plays Sympathy for the Devil, it's excused because it isn't coming from someone who took a piss on the Alamo, bit off a bat's head or has albums titled Black Sabbath. That song Black Sabbath is warning people Satan's coming, as there are people who don't believe in God so beware. Influences from the occult doesn't mean they're practicing it but just singing about it. A lot of what artists do seems out there, and some are, but a lot is still to make people think, and playing a joke on them, not to be taken seriously. This a quote of his.........

In an interview clip from Audacy shared on Aug. 14, 2015, Osbourne discussed what he thought at the time would be Black Sabbath's final tour, as well as his religious beliefs. The interview was actually from 1992, but Audacy shared it years later.

In the interview, Osbourne said that he believed in God, but that doesn't mean he attended church.

"I believe in God. I don't go to church, but I don't think you have to ... go to church to believe in God," he said.

He was a big druggie. Talked real slow.

He was in bad health for quite awhile, abused alcohol and drugs, and had Parkinsons.

He likely knew it was soon, so going out like he lived seems appropriate.

I think so

For someone who snorted his own urine from the floor in front of strangers he seems very beloved by others.

No matter what you do, people can still love you.

It's a testament to humanity, this love for OO.

Unnecessary comment about the Dicks........................they know who are they are.

After today's very sad news of Ozzy's demise my reminiscing took me back to the Bizzard of Oz tour with a still alive Randy Rhodes at Oxford Apollo swear my chest is still thumping from Crazy Train RIP Oz🤔

The music was a bit before my time but I enjoyed The Osbournes.

Yeah Osbournes, Kardashians etc, that's the level of entertainment right wingers enjoy

I by chance never listened to his music.  I did like his travel tour show with his son Jack.  They visited a former nuclear missile silo, and more places that Ozzy liked.  That show was shown here in Thailand for a few months and it disappeared on True Visions.  I suppose it might be on YouTube.  During my tours of duty in Vietnam and Thailand I listened to the American bands with their antiwar songs.  His stated belief in God as a personal spiritual quest is somewhat my view.  Churches, temples, monasteries, etc. are made by man and in my opinion are not needed.  RiP Ozzy Osbourne.

Well this is what we know for now

I and a couple of my sailor buddies won tickets and backstage passes for his Blizzard of OZ tour in San Diego in '81. He was a bit out there but pretty cool.

I wished that Toni Iommi had came with him from Black Sabbath. :stoner:

Ozzy "left" Sabbath in 1979, ejected partly due to substance and alcohol abuse, according to most accounts. Some famous vocalists stepped in (like Ronnie James Dio and Ian Gillan) while Ozzy did his his Blizzard of Oz thing.

But Ozzy reunited with Black Sabbath a few times and rejoined from 1997 to 2005 and in 2012-13 and a final tour in 2017.

RIP Ozzy
