Really? Then why is the US importing 4 million barrels of oil a day, 50 Terr Watts/h per annum, from canada? Where does the USA mine the nickel, cobalt, tellurium, niobium, uranium, potash, indium, tungsten, magnesium  and potash to cover its domestic needs?

Trump says he doesn't need Canadian lumber, yet the USA doesn't have enough sawmills or loggers to replace the canadian lumber imports. The USA  doesn't have enough aluminum to cover its domestic needs, nor can it produce enough because Aluminum smelting requires lots of  energy and it just isn't cost effective to produce it in  the USA. Where would all those morbidly obese  Americans source their XXXXL clothing if not from Bangladesh, Vietnam or Cambodia?  Who's manufacturing the  low cost consumer  items the USA demands? It's not as if the USA has anyone making it. All those EU sourced medications the USA wants to surcharge  cannot be made in the USA because the local demand cannot generate enough revenue to justify the manufacturing investment.

The USA expects to sell its products in other countries, without accepting imports from those countries. The USA runs  large surpluses in services and expects that other countries should accept that unfair construct.

I did note rare earth correct? If the oil is cheap the US will buy it.

All those products can be made elsewhere, in any country.

In the end stop crying and be a big boy and just keep things status quo and accept the tarrifs.

Canada what a fking mess

This is still in the negotiation stage, and we all know how true the word of the US has become. 🤥

Eventually it's down to consumers. If people avoid buying US manufactured stuff, then it doesn't matter if they have or don't have market access, or whether import duties are 0 or 1000%...

This is so wrong. The United States global perspective has been based upon allowing Nations to build themselves into democracies and free markets. It has used its Market to service that end.  China is the absolute perfect textbook example of this. The policy despite having decades of practice has failed

United States is not asking other countries to run surpluses. It is asking for balance trade. The trouble is nations can't even get to zero let alone a surplus. This is entirely disingenuous.

Specifically, most nations cannot and will not run surpluses

Canada what a fking mess

Softwood lumber:  What countries can provide the quality, and volume needed to keep US  housing construction affordable?

Aluminum: What countries  can provide the quality and the volume that US manufacturing requires?

And so on.

Americans have a disconnect to their own sordid history. It was the US corporations backed by the US government who demanded access to international markets buying up competitors and  gutting their operations. It was the USA that used military force on   helpless latin American countries in order to  control their economies. This was  demonstrated in Cuba, in Honduras, in Nicaragua etc. It took a revolution in Cuba to get rid of the corrupt US presence and to remove the US gangsters.

It was the US corporations backed by the US government  who demanded free access to the Canadian market and who bought up Canadian resource companies and manufacturing . Americans  were happy to move jobs from Canada to the USA and profited from forcing Canadians to purchase US made products. Then, in order to sustain that model, the US companies that had branch plant operations in Canada, always kept the more profitable operations. It was GM that took over and shut down Mclaughlin Automobile. It was Russell Motor Company pushed out by Ford, and it was Gray Dort that made a mistake in getting mixed up with Dodge. And so on.  The USA has woken up the world to see that the USA is not to be trusted and that the US model of  anything goes capitalism is not reliable.

The USA is not running balanced trade with  many countries. On the contrary it has forced those countries to accept the US trade surpluses. At some point the victims of the US economic bullying are going to say no more excessive US surpluses in services will be tolerated. What's the US plan for that?

They are just talking. There is no deal.

Mmm strange, because if I were offered anything from the USA and the samething from Thailand I would be choosing USA every time. From wine to vehicle's!

So this is winning?

Economists expect growth to lose momentum over the rest of the year.

Forecasts of higher consumer prices and potential delay of desired rate cuts pose a threat to Trump's promise to lower prices, and could dent consumer spending.

White House floated rebate checks for lower-income Americans, acknowledging potential economic pain.

Unresolved Issues and Long-Term Outlook. Deals with Canada and Taiwan, and decisions for pharmaceuticals and steel industries are unresolved. The colossal issue of China remains. Many struck deals are verbal and unsigned.

Trump's overarching aim to return production and jobs to America may have limited success. Long-time trading partners like Canada and the EU might seek economic and political connections bypassing the US.

Long-term ramifications for global trading patterns and alliances are expected.

So you are one of the people who would pay anything as long as it's made in USA, "every time". Hence it doesn't matter what the price is. Even if 100x higher.

Thailand doesn't really manufacturer much of anything of any substance. No value added, no innovation, no international brand outside of elephant pants.

It's just an assembly plant for Chinas junk, some random cheap electronics.

Toyota, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Honda all manufacture vehicles in Thailand.

You are posting rubbish, and not for the first time.

Nothing about what you listed is Thai, just assembly plants of other nations R&D & investment.

Those carmakers make vehicles in Thailand for a reason.

BYD is outselling Tesla worldwide. Cheaper, better quality.

The only place Tesla outsells BYD is the USA, thanks to a 100% tariff on BYD vehicles.

Tesla's quality problems are long-standing. Poor paint quality, finish, electronics glitches, misaligned panels.

Americans wanting EV's get far less choice than the rest of the world.

50% of plasma, immunoglobulins and recombinant proteins come from Australia. They are hit with a 200% tariff.

The USA has a positive trade balance with Australia. It has been that way for decades.

So when you talk about status quo, it does not exist in our case.

AS for stop crying, take a long walk off a short pier.

Well then, it's balanced and nothing to worry about

It has not been for decades, you are a liar.

Globalization: until aprox 2010, it was bringing growth for everybody, since than only for the richs and multinationals, today is « deglobalization» to prioretize
US trade defizit : 20 years the world is mourning and yelling about the US, that its taking depts for cover their Consumption ,on the cost of other nations
Today: Trump tries to fix the impalances of trade ,and reducing the widening Gap,and the world is mourning and yelling about the consequences, once again.
Countrys must go back to their local and regioanl markets, with what is left, from the theft of the last decade. One is in a good shape for that to happen is Russia, on the other hand china is not prepared for that

the cahnge from globalization to deglobalization will be hard and challenging, it will bring years of financial unstability and economic uncertanity , if the world get out of this mass , maybe its a better world than today

but its very very late..........................

Largely for regional market. I admit I don't know, but highly doubtful any of these exported to US.

I wasn't discussing autos, they are sort of a special carve out. Something Thailand desperately clings to.

Auto assembly hardly high tech. It's basically an expanded version of assembling electronics junk

This is one thing Trump does not understand.  U.S. influence is on the skids around the world with many consumers shunning American products and buying less expensive alternatives or even doing without.  Rising inflation without corresponding pay raises is taking its toll.

So, what you're saying is that Thailand's 200%+ tax and tariffs on US autos has no effect on whether Thais would buy a Ford F250 instead of a more expensive locally made toy truck?

The truth is that Toyota is way better than any Ford garbage, is locally with an outstanding network, USFO.

Trump did another TACO. He's a weak man. Thailand got a better deal than Vietnam, which gave 100 percent 0 tariffs on American imports, compared to Thailand's 90 percent, which will be the biggest part of trade. Also get a lower tariff. All this in return for Thailand buying Swedish Gripens, instead of F16s. And Trump having the rug pulled out from under him with Chinese mediation of Cambodia/Thailand skirmish. All the other stuff Thailand promises will be slow walked and delayed until Trump is out of office. And those "luxury taxes" aren't going anywhere in Thailand either. Not to mention tariffs will not go into effect today, as promised. No, it will be yet another week. Delay after delay. All "art of the deal," of course. Trump is a limp leader.

Similar to the blind leading the blind.

But does Toyota make a full size truck in Thailand?
