A 16-year-old boy has been arrested for fatally shooting a peer of the same age in Rayong Province, following a long-standing personal feud. Police have charged the suspect with five serious offences, while efforts continue to track down his accomplices.

The incident occurred in the early hours of 1 August along Wat Map Kha Road in Moo 4, Map Kha Subdistrict, Nikhom Phatthana District. According to police, a dispute between two groups of teenagers escalated into violence when the suspect, identified only as Kritsana, allegedly used a homemade handgun to fire on his rival group.

One of the bullets struck 16-year-old Sarayut, known as “Dep”, beneath his right rib cage. He was rushed to Map Ta Phut Hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead. A bystander, Ms. Ratchanee, 44, was also injured in the crossfire, suffering a gunshot wound to her left ankle.

Following the shooting, officers from Nikhom Phatthana Police Station, led by Pol. Col. Chaipong Saengphongchai and his investigation team, quickly launched a manhunt. The suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident and confessed during questioning.

Kritsana told police he was riding past the victim’s home when he spotted Dep’s group. He initially fired a shot into the air as a warning and rode away, but returned later to find they were waiting for him. He then fired two more shots before fleeing the scene.

The firearm, a homemade pistol, was seized during the arrest.

Police have charged the teenager with:

1. Murder

2. Attempted murder

3. Possession of an unlicensed firearm

4. Carrying a firearm in public without reasonable cause

5. Discharging a firearm in a public area without justification

Investigators are continuing their search for others involved in the crime.
