Two teenage girls lost their lives in a motorbike crash on a winding road in Chumphon, after the rider lost control and slammed into a roadside signpost.

At approximately 17:30 on 2 August, Pol. Lt. Col. Chatchai Nualjing, Deputy Inspector of Investigation at Phato Police Station, received a report of a serious accident on the Phato–Ratchakrut road, near a bend just before the entrance to the Waew Lom Waterfall in Moo 3, Pak Song subdistrict, Phato district, Chumphon province.

Emergency services from the Buddhabrateep Foundation and Phato Hospital’s rescue volunteers rushed to the scene, where they discovered two deceased females.

The first victim, identified as a 14-year-old girl named Thipwimon was found trapped under a blue Honda motorcycle. Nearby, 15-year-old Kantada was discovered lifeless at the base of a steel post bearing a tourist sign. Neither girl was wearing a helmet.

According to initial reports, Thipwimon had ridden from her home in Ban Huai Nam Yen, a village near the Chumphon-Ranong provincial border, to collect her friend Kantada for a visit. After a stop at a roadside market to buy food, they were just one kilometre away from reaching their destination when the crash occurred.

Police believe that excessive speed, combined with the winding of the road, caused the bike rider to veer out of control and crash head-on into the signpost, killing both girls instantly.

Rescue workers have since transported their bodies to Phato Hospital for examinations.

Thipwimon and Kantada, who were born in the same year (2010), were classmates and close friends.
