Cambodian authorities have deported 27 Thai nationals allegedly involved in a large-scale call centre scam operation in Siem Reap province, following a sweeping crackdown on criminal networks.

The group, comprising 14 men and 13 women, was identified during a joint operation between Cambodian police and the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Siem Reap, which targeted hundreds of suspected scam operators in the area.

After completing legal procedures in Cambodia, the suspects were handed over to Thai officials at the Ban Khlong Luek permanent border checkpoint in Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province. The handover took place on the Thai–Cambodian Friendship Bridge, with the reception led by Pol Col Napattharaphong Supaporn, Superintendent of Sa Kaeo Immigration, alongside RTA Capt Arkom Mongkolnam, Commander of the 1201st Paramilitary Company, and officers from the Thai–Cambodian Border Coordination Office.

Immigration screening at Aranyaprathet revealed that four of the returnees were wanted on arrest warrants for their roles in call centre scam operations. A further 11 had been named in 60 online fraud complaints filed through Thailand’s “case ID” system.

All 27 individuals were processed under immigration procedures before being transferred to the NRM (National Referral Mechanism) Centre at the 19th Military Circle, Surasinghanat Camp, in Aranyaprathet for further questioning and classification. Those facing legal action will be sent to the relevant authorities for prosecution.

The deportations form part of ongoing cross-border efforts between Thailand and Cambodia to combat cybercrime and transnational scam networks, which have defrauded thousands of victims across the region.
