Highway police in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya and Ang Thong have arrested a Thai man for transporting an illegal Chinese migrant, allegedly for a fee of 3,000 baht.

On 7 August, officers from the Highway Police divisions of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya and Ang Thong, working alongside Ang Thong Immigration Police, stopped a grey car with Bangkok licence plates on the inbound Asia Highway (Route 32) in Ban It Subdistrict, Mueang District, Ang Thong.

The driver, identified only as “Mr A”, aged 43, was found to be transporting a 29-year-old Chinese man who had no passport or travel documents.

During questioning, Mr A confessed that he had been hired to take the Chinese national from Phitsanulok Province to Bangkok, receiving 3,000 baht for the job.

Police have detained both men for further questioning and are investigating the wider network behind the smuggling operation.

It is always amazing Thailand... an Illegal Chinese ok, the Chinese must be fined, but a Thai man transporting him arresting is a bit too crazy..  They call ir smuggling, but then Thai man is not obliged to ask for papers to bring someone somewhere, even if he is being paid for his time and petrol.

In fact when I bring my family to the airport I could be arrested as I can be seen as an illegal taxi, as my family would give me some money for the petrol and food...So people are nowhere save for the RTP.
